Michael Orris has ended up playing for Bruce Weber after all.
Orris, who has signed with Weber and Illinois in November, then was released from scholarship on April 13, has signed to play at Kansas State. Orris said he faxed his letter of intent to the Manhattan, Kan. school on Wednesday.
Weber was fired from Illinois on March 9 and was replaced by John Groce, who lead Ohio University to a Sweet Sixteen appearance. Orris did not feel it was a good fit and began his recruit process for the third time. He had committed to Creighton in May 2011, but got out of his commitment shortly after then-Crete coach Matt Ryndak, who led his recruiting process, was fired and charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor.
Weber was named Kansas State's coach less than a month after his firing from Illinois.
"It is a good feeling to play for Coach Weber and he is the reason I committed with them," Orris said. "He recruited me very hard (when at Illinois) and I like his style of coaching and he is a first-class person."
He said one thing that stood out was Weber's concern for him to pick the right school.
"He told me along to do what is best for me, even if it wasn't playing for Kansas State," Orris said. "That shows you what kind of person Bruce Weber is."
Orris was a Times second-team pick in 2012, averaging 10.8 points, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. As a junior, he was a Times first-team selection in leading the Warriors to the program's first-ever sectional title.
