GARY | Bowman Academy turned defense into offense all game long against Andrean.
The Times No. 1 Eagles used full-court pressure to force 43 Andrean turnovers in a 92-52 rout Saturday night.
The Eagles (2-0) outscored the No, 8 59ers 58-28 in the second half to extend a 10-point lead.
Justin King scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half for Bowman. Arthur Haggard added 15 points, while Akil McClain and Anthony Cole each added 12.
Bowman outscored Andrean 35-17 in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles scored five points off turnovers in the final six seconds of the first half to take a 34-24 halftime lead. Darrion Riddle drained two free throws, and after a five-second violation gave the ball back to Bowman, King made a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left.
The Eagles forced 19 Andrean turnovers in the first half.
Bowman opened the game on an 8-0 run, and Andrean (0-3) did not get closer than two throughout the remainder of the half.
King opened the game on a dunk off a lob from Haggard. Austin Daniels followed with a putback of an offensive rebound. Haggard scored a transition layup, and King finished the run with a basket in transition.
The 59ers settled down and went on an 8-0 run late in the opening quarter to trim the Bowman lead to 12-10. Colin Flowers, Nick Podkul, Parker Huttel and Ben Davidson all scored for Andrean in the run.
Jon Kerby and Davidson each scored nine points to lead the 59ers.
