EAST CHICAGO | Tre'Quan Burnett has had some good news recently.
Earlier in the week, he notched All-State Honorable Mention honors in football and on Saturday night he took the karma to the basketball court.
The junior guard scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter of Times No. 9 E.C. Central's 56-42 nonconference win over Lowell.
Neither team could find a rhythm offensively in the first quarter, as both teams committed turnover after turnover.
E.C. Central (2-1) had more traveling calls (three) than field goals (two) in the opening period.
The second quarter was more of a defensive battle and neither team would give an inch, fouling the opposition each time an opponent had an open look for a shot.
Both teams combined for 20 fouls in the first half alone, as the bulk of Lowell's points came at the foul line in which it made 9-of-11 from the stripe.
Both E.C.'s Hyron Edwards and Lowell's Zach Van Hook had frustrating first halves, as the two combined for just one field goal -- a 3 by Van Hook with two minutes left.
The host Cardinals found their offensive stride in the third quarter with20 points, including an 11-2 run over the last four minutes of the quarter and they held Lowell (0-3) to just six.
Van Hook, who scored a game-high 25, finally got it going in the final quarter, but the fourth was dominated by Burnett, who scored the Cardinals' first six of period.
