Gavit is looking to fill its boys basketball coaching position and its athletic director's post.
Former athletic director and basketball coach Brandon Ridenour moved to Arizona to open a business. A longtime friend of former Bears linebacket Brian Urlacher — they grew up together in Lovington, N.M. — had his last day at the Hammond school on April 4.
Acting AD Robert Robinson will be one of six candidates interviewing for the AD's position on Wednesday with principal Michelle Ondas.
"I've been told we're going to hire the athletic director's position first," Robinson said. "Then, we'll hire for boys basketball and wrestling."
Ridenour coached at Calumet for three seasons and went 22-44. He then took an assistant coaching position at Texas State. In six years at Gavit the Gladiators went 49-84.
With Ridenour getting his 10 years in public education he was able to retire.
"I think we've made a good transition," Robinson said. "This spring has been tough with all the weather we've had, but we've made it through. I am very interested in being our athletic director and to remain as our football coach.
"I'm excited about what the future will hold."
