Bio: The University of Illinois-bound Abrams completed a superb prep career by leading the Caravan to 21 wins, plus conference and regional titles. Chosen the Catholic League MVP, an Associated Press second-team Class 4A All-Stater and the Times Player of the Year, Abrams shot 54 percent inside the 3-point arc and 38 percent from beyond.
Alex Austin, Mount Carmel
6-3, Jr., F
Stats: 12.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.0 spg, 1.5 apg, 46 FG Pct.
Bio: The son of former Indiana Mr. Basketball and Purdue player Woody Austin evolved into a reliable sidekick for Caravan star Tracy Abrams. A proficient perimeter marksman, Austin and Malcolm Hill-Bey will be Mount Carmel's ringleaders in 2011-12.
Bernard Brame, Thornton
6-7, Sr., C
Stats: 10.9 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 58 FG Pct.
Bio: The 6-foot-7 Brame gave the Wildcats their most imposing interior presence by displaying a nose for the ball as a rebounder and a soft shooting touch in the paint. Brame, who's being looked at by Chicago State, also had 32 blocks and 26 steals.
Jamee Crockett, Crete-Monee
6-4, Sr., F/G
Stats: 20.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.0 spg, 47 FG Pct.
Bio: Headed to DePaul next fall, Crockett joins Abrams as a three-time member of the Times All-Area first team. In addition to his offense and rebounding, Crockett supplied the Warriors with 59 steals, 40 assists, 36 3s, 20 blocks and much improved defense. He was selected to the Associated Press All-State second team in Class 4A.
Brian Greene, Thornton
6-3, Sr., G
Stats: 14.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, 2.1 spg, 45 FG Pct.
Bio: Greene's stats don't tell the whole story about his effectiveness. One of the area's premier slashers to the basket, Greene's ability to draw opposing defenders toward him -- and his willingness to dish the ball -- gave Wildcats teammates a lot of unimpeded shots.
Julian Lewis, Homewood-Flossmoor
6-5, Sr., F/G
Stats: 16.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 61 FG Pct.
Bio: Making his second appearance on the Times' All-Area first team, Lewis increased his scoring average by more than a full point per game while remaining the Vikings' defensive ace. Other notable stats for Lewis included 47 assists and 39 steals.
Greg Mays, Crete-Monee
6-8, Sr., C
Stats: 10.0 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.5 bpg, 59 FG Pct.
Bio: Once he recovered from an offseason injury, the 6-8 Wisconsin-Green Bay recruit became a greater influence within the Warriors' attack. Mays was a big reason, both physically and figuratively, behind Crete's winning of its first-ever sectional crown.
Donald Moore, Bloom Twp.
6-0, Jr., G
Stats: 12.5 ppg, 6.0 apg, 82 FT Pct.
Bio: Moore's slender build likely fooled some foes into believing he could be pushed around, but the junior sharpshooter stood strong all season. Bloom coach Jasper Williams called Moore his best player and said the team would "go where Donald goes."
Michael Orris, Crete-Monee
6-3, Jr., G.
Stats: 9.7 ppg, 6.0 apg, 47 FG Pct., 38 3-point FG Pct., 74 FT Pct.
Bio: Thought by many to be the missing piece in the Warriors' puzzle, Orris didn't disappoint. The Palatine transfer not only ran Crete's offense smoothly as its point guard, he could score both near and away from the basket when called upon to do so.
Montero Rice, T.F. North
6-2, Sr., G.
Stats: 15.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.5 apg, 2.9 spg.
Bio: In his final year with the Meteors, Rice upped his production in every statistical category and was a primary mover behind another above-average T.F. North campaign. Although he was the Meteors' top 3-point threat, Rice wasn't afraid to operate in the paint.
Russell Robinson, Seton Academy
6-8, Jr., C
Stats: 12 ppg, 8 rpg, 4 bpg.
Bio: A worthy successor to 2009-10 all-area first-teamer Chris Olivier, Robinson's blocks-per-game average was actually a bit higher than the Sting's previous big man. His inside presence helped Seton return to prominence and reach a Class 2A sectional final.
Tyrone Sherman, Homewood-Flossmoor
5-10, Jr., G
Stats: 12.6 ppg, 4.6 apg, 50 FG Pct., 82 FT Pct.
Bio: A high-energy type, Sherman was the engine that drove the Vikings' attack. Along with handling point guard duties, Sherman knocked down 42 3-pointers while shooting 37 percent from behind the arc, grabbed 83 rebounds and made 50 steals.
SECOND TEAM
Wyn Bradley | Mount Carmel
6-4, Sr., F | 9.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 62 FG Pct.
Coach Mike Flaherty loved Bradley's willingness to "do things that don't show up in a stat book."
Darell Combs | Thornwood
6-0, Jr., G | 19 ppg, 4 apg, 4 rpg.
The T'birds' steadiest player, Combs helped Thornwood regain some basketball luster this winter.
Chris Coulter | Seton Academy
6-1, Sr., G | 13 ppg, 3 apg, 51 FG Pct, 81 FT Pct.
Coulter moved from St. Francis to Seton, and from point to shooting guard, without missing a beat.
Michael Lee | T.F. South
6-3, Sr., F | 14.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.1 spg, 47 FG Pct., 38 3-point FG Pct., 68 FT Pct.
Unsung because of the Rebels' sub-.500 record, Lee was T.F. South's go-to guy at crunch time.
DeAndre Lowery | T.F. North
6-0, Sr., G | 11.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.2 spg.
Once again, the soft-spoken Lowery was quietly effective at running the Meteors' offense.
Jay Parker | Thornton
5-10, Sr., G | 12.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 2.9 spg.
A four-year varsity player, Parker's game-day headiness was a valuable commodity for the 'Cats.
Delvon Rencher | Homewood-Flossmoor
6-5, Jr., F | 12.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.5 apg, 59 FG Pct.
Rencher, the nephew of former Marquette star Lloyd Walton, eased the pain of Tim Williams' long absence.
Sinclaire Stevenson | Thornridge
6-2, Sr., G | 17 ppg, 8 rpg.
The stocky 190-pounder made himself at home down low and was effective despite his lack of height.
Paul Styx | Illinois Lutheran
6-6, Sr., C | 15 ppg, 8 rpg, 3.0 bpg, 61 FG Pct.
The Chargers' main man posted 10 double-doubles in 19 games and scored 10 or more points 18 times.
LaQuon Treadwell | Crete-Monee
6-3, So., G/F | 6.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg.
Following Kentrell King's injury, the super sub became a starter and registered a team-best 64 steals.
Tyler Ulis | Marian Catholic
5-6, Fr., G | 12.9 ppg, 3.4 apg, 2.0 spg, 1.8 rpg, 38 3-point FG Pct., 72 FT Pct.
In his first high school season, Ulis topped the Spartans in per-game scoring, steals and assists.
Eric Washington | St. Francis deSales
6-2, Sr., F | 13.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.4 spg, 56 FG Pct.
The energetic Washington augmented his respectable stats by often guarding foes' best players.
