MUNSTER | Munster simply doesn't lose conference games.
The Times No. 5 Mustangs wrapped up their seventh consecutive undefeated season in the Northwest Crossroads Conference with a 74-51 win over Andrean Friday.
Munster is 42-0 in the NCC since its formation in 2007.
"The kids are aware of (the streak) and they're proud of it, especially the seniors. They don't want to be the group that lets that streak end," Munster coach Mike Hackett said. "Hopefully we can keep that going."
Munster (17-4, 6-0 NCC) opened up the game in a big way. Led by junior guard Drew Hackett, the Mustangs jumped out to a 22-3 lead after one quarter.
Munster scored 11 field goals in the first half and eight of them were from beyond the arc. Drew Hackett had five 3-pointers.
The lead was 40-16 at the break.
"Obviously we made some shots, but we held them to three points and there wasn't a field goal. It was three free throws," Mike Hackett said. "It was nice for us to get a lead and be able to play with a lead. I got to play everybody a lot."
Andrean (9-8, 3-3) looked like it might make the game interesting early in the third quarter. The 59ers went on a 14-2 run to shave the lead to 42-30, but that was as close as it got.
"I love basketball when we hit shots and it makes a huge difference," 59ers coach Scott Hicko said. "I think in that second half we settled down a little bit and started running our stuff a little better."
Friday was senior night at Munster, not just for the basketball team but also for cheerleading, dance and band. All those seniors were announced before the game. The court for the turnabout dance was also announced at halftime.
"I was a little nervous about tonight because of all the extra festivities we had going on tonight. We had a lot of distractions going on," coach Hackett said. "I thought the extra-long halftime really took the wind out of our sails and it took us a while to get going again."
Drew Hackett led the game with 23 points, including six 3-pointers. Parker Huttle scored 13 to pace Andrean.
