Boone Grove (14-8): The Wolves topped Rochester, 59-39, and Winamac, 64-49, to capture the Class 2A Winamac Sectional last week for their 11th sectional title and first since 2010. Junior Jon Hogg scored a career-high 21 points in the title game with Winamac. Next up for Boone will be Fort Wayne Luers (15-6) at 10 a.m. Saturday in the North Judson Regional semifinal.
Chesterton (13-9): The Trojans defeated LaPorte 70-50 before falling to Valparaiso 56-34 at the Class 4A Michigan City Sectional. It was their third consecutive win over LaPorte this year and their third straight loss to Valpo. Senior Cole Teal netted five points against the Vikings to become the 45th player in Chesterton history to reach 500 points.
Hanover Central (15-8): In its first year of competing in Class 3A, Hanover defeated Calumet 46-34 before falling to Andrean 69-47 in the title game at Kankakee Valley. The 15 wins by coach Bryon Clouse's Wildcats represent only the sixth time in the school's 47-year history that they have won that many games. Senior Max Johnson totaled 22 points in the two games to move past 1984 grad Ralph Brown into eighth place on the Hanover scoring list.
Hebron (9-11): The Hawks fell to sectional host Winamac despite a personal-best 25 points from junior Tony Rose.
Kouts (19-3): Despite losing to Class A Kouts Sectional champion Gary 21st Century 56-49 in the opening round, the Mustangs posted their third consecutive 19-win season under coach Marty Gaff, who is retiring after 30 years. Kouts has gone 57-10 over the past three seasons. Junior Max Everaert, Porter County’s leading scorer, tallied 13 points against the Cougars and moved past 1973 grad Tom Burnette into the school’s top 30 in scoring.
LaCrosse (3-17): The Tigers dropped a 65-45 decision to Washington Township in the opening round of the Kouts Sectional. It marked the fifth consecutive year that LaCrosse has lost its opening game. Senior center Riley Charlesworth scored 14 points and moved past 1990 grad Cary Guse into 14th place on the LaCrosse scoring list.
Morgan Township (6-15): The Cherokees defeated Gary Lighthouse 66-62 before falling to Gary 21st Century 54-48 in the Kouts Sectional semifinals. It was the first-ever meeting for Morgan against both schools. Senior Ryan Klikus totaled 48 points in the two games and moved past 2005 grad Nate McGinley into eighth place on the Morgan scoring list with 1,007 points. Sophomore Chase Braden tallied 14 points in each game and became the 65th player in Morgan history to reach the 500-point mark. Braden, coach Eric Braden's son, has a total of 512.
Portage (10-13): Portage lost to Valpo 51-37 in its Michigan City Sectional opener. Without a senior on the team, the Indians posted their best record since the 2004 team went 12-11.
South Central (3-17): An 69-41 opening-round loss to Westville in the Class A Culver Community Sectional concluded a season in which the Satellites recorded their worst record since the 2004 team went 0-20. Freshman Johnny Rosenbaum notched a personal-best 10 points against Westville. Senior Brett Walters reached the 200-point plateau.
Valparaiso (18-5): The Vikings defeated Portage by 14 and Chesterton by 22 before falling to Merrillville 63-56 in overtime in the finals of the Michigan City Sectional. Valpo has won 12 straight from Portage and 13 straight from Chesterton. Senior John Mosser poured in 24 points against Merrillville and moved into the top 50 on the Valpo scoring list. Senior Zach Meyer notched a career-high 16 points against the Pirates.
Washington Township (16-7): The Senators rolled over Covenant Christian, 83-40, and LaCrosse, 65-45, before falling to 21st Century, 62-59, in the Kouts Sectional final. The Senators notched a school-record 16 wins. It was the first time in six years that the Senators have won a sectional game and the first time they have reached the finals since 2004. Senior Ryan Geberin totaled 61 points in the three games to move over the 400 mark to 412. Geberin's 26-point effort against Covenant matched his personal best. Junior Brandon Adkins stashed 58 points in the three games and moved over the 400 mark to 431. Adkins recorded a career-best 28 points against LaCrosse. Senior Luke Lipinski added 10 points in the three games to move over the 200 mark.
Westville (12-10): The Blackhawks defeated South Central by 28 points in the opening round at Culver before falling to Marquette 81-46 in the semifinals. Senior Michael Grylewicz totaled 26 points in the two games to move over the 200 mark to 206. Grylewicz matched his career high with 17 against the Satellites. Westville recorded its best record since the 2007 team went 18-4.
Wheeler (13-8): The Bearcats dropped a 48-40 decision to Bishop Noll, the third loss to the Warriors this season, at the Class 2A Wheeler Sectional. It was the 12th consecutive winning season for the Bearcats.
