Girls

Boone Grove (8-4): The Wolves defeated Highland 47-37 last week but had their six-game winning streak snapped with a 61-55 overtime loss to Whiting. Senior Paige Aguilera (25) and freshman Sarah Brown (10) each established a personal best against the Oilers.

Chesterton (4-6): The Trojans began the week with a 56-30 win over Valpo. They followed with a 55-49 overtime loss to DeKalb in the opening round of the Goshen tournament and then came back with a 51-37 win over Tipton in the consolation game. Junior Caroline Puntillo totaled 53 points in the three games, including a career-high 21 against DeKalb. It was the Trojans' first meeting ever with Tipton.

Hanover Central (6-3): Area scoring leader Blayr Poston fired in 24 points in a 41-37 win over Andrean.

Kouts (4-6): The Fillies recorded a season-high offensive output in a 54-46 win over Knox. Coach Ron Kobza will coach his 100th game when the Fillies take on Centerville in the Hamilton tournament Saturday.

LaCrosse (4-7): The Tigers beat Westville 40-38 in the opening round of the Mid-Winter Classic, giving them four wins, which matches last season’s total.

Morgan Township (6-7): Sophomore Paige Moore scored a career-high 10 points in a 55-42 win over Hebron. The Cherokees then suffered a 50-40 loss to Bishop Noll. Junior Trina Coleman totaled 26 points in the two games, becoming the seventh player in Morgan history to reach the 700-point plateau.

Portage (7-3): The Indians received a career-high 10 points from freshman Kaitlyn Steers in a 46-36 win over Lake Central.

South Central (7-3): The Satellites captured their 15th Mid-Winter Classic title and their third in the last four years by downing Washington Township 51-31 and LaCrosse 43-34. Freshman Riley Popplewell totaled 28 points in the two games to claim the individual scoring title for the tourney. Junior Jill Rosenbaum added 27 points. South Central is on a five-game winning streak and has won its last 17 games against the Tigers.

Valparaiso (2-10): The Vikings’ loss to Chesterton dropped them to 0-7 in the Duneland Athletic Conference. They have dropped 10 of their last 11 outings.

Washington Township (4-8): Defending champion Washington was beaten in the opening round of the Mid-Winter by South Central but came back to take the consolation game from Westville 56-37. Junior Sammie Higgins notched a personal-best 17 points against the Blackhawks.

Westville (1-10): Losses in the Mid-Winter to LaCrosse and Washington extended the Blackhawks’ losing skid to six games. Senior Shaina Jacks scored a career-high 17 points against LaCrosse. Junior Hanna Antikainen tossed in a career-high 10 points against Washington.

Wheeler (4-5): The Bearcats pounded North Newton 41-16 for their fifth consecutive win over the Spartans.

 

Boys

Boone Grove (5-1): The Wolves ran their winning streak to five games with a 64-44 win over Whiting. Senior Jake Clapp matched his career best with 18 points and went over the 400 mark to 417 for his career. Senior Dean Hill added 10 points and also went over the 400 mark to 408. Junior Jon Hogg reached the 200-point milestone with nine points.

Chesterton (3-4): Sophomore Chris Palombizio scored seven points in a 55-48 loss to Valpo to move over the 200 mark to 201. Junior Cole Teal led the way with a season-high 19 points.

Hanover Central (5-2): Senior Jeremy Pedersoli scored a career-high 16 points in a 68-60 loss to Griffith.

Hebron (4-4): The Hawks defeated Clark 41-31 for their first win in the series. Clark had won the two previous meetings.

Kouts (7-1): The Mustangs extended their season-opening winning streak to seven games with a 59-48 win over Lake Station before falling to Pioneer 68-49. It was Kouts’ first-ever meeting with both schools, which were picked up this year to replace the South County tournament. Senior Andrew Birky equaled his career best with 19 points and added a career-high 17 rebounds against the Eagles. Junior Max Everaert tallied a season-high 21 points against the Panthers to move over the 400 mark to 418.

LaCrosse (1-7): The Tigers fell to Westville, 82-64, and South Central, 57-49, in the Mid-Winter Classic, extending their losing streak to six straight games. Senior Riley Charlesworth totaled 43 points in the two games, including a season-high equaling 27 against the Blackhawks.

Morgan Township (2-6): The Cherokees finished sixth in the eight-team Caston tournament. They dropped a 46-33 decision to Kankakee Valley in the opening round, defeated Oregon-Davis 72-35 in the consolation round and then lost to Northfield 56-42. Senior Ryan Klikus scored 37 points in the three games and moved into the top 25 on the Morgan scoring list. He has 728 points and moved past Jaron Coleman into 24th place. Sophomore Chase Braden tossed in 16 points against Northfield to move over the 300 mark to 314. Freshman Jake Koselke notched a personal-best 13 points against Northfield.

Portage (4-3): Junior Gage Pearman recorded a personal-best 10 points in a 55-43 loss to Lake Central.

South Central (2-5): The defending champion Satellites dropped an 81-51 decision to Washington Township in the opening round of the Mid-Winter before winning the consolation game against LaCrosse. Senior Adam Clindaniel totaled 32 points in the two games to move over the 300 mark to 324. Junior Austen Hanna tallied a career-high 16 points against LaCrosse.

Valparaiso (7-1): The Vikings’ seven-point win over Chesterton was their 11th straight in the series, which has been dominated by Valpo 112-29. Senior Brody Wilson matched his season high with 15 points as the Vikings ran their winning streak to five games.

Washington Township (5-3): The Senators claimed their seventh Mid-Winter title and their first since 2006 with a 69-57 win over Westville in the championship game. That came on the heels of a 30-point win over South Central. Junior Brandon Adkins (23) and senior Luke Lipinski (17) each recorded a career best against Westville. Senior Bob Ross totaled 25 points in the two games to move over the 400 mark to 413. Senior Ryan Geberin had 36 points in the two games, including a personal-best 26 against the Satellites, pushing him over the 200 mark to 235.

Westville (3-6): Junior Shawn Gerron scored a career-high 23 points in a win over LaCrosse and upped that mark with 24 more against Washington. The 47 points in two games made him the leading scorer in the Mid-Winter. Senior Dylan Perney (17) and Michael Grylewicz (12) each had a career-best against the Tigers.
