Girls

Boone Grove (13-5): The Wolves continued their domination of the Porter County Conference tournament by capturing their fifth consecutive title and 15th overall with wins over Hanover Central, 47-37, Kouts, 46-42, and Morgan Township, 40-28, last week. They have won eight of the last nine events. Senior Paige Aguilera totaled 47 points in the three games to move over the 400 mark to 428. She also added 31 rebounds and 16 steals. Junior Nicole Malouhos added 24 points to go over the 200 mark to 218.

Chesterton (4-12): The Trojans suffered losses to Andrean, 40-39, and Portage, 63-58. Sophomore Kassidy Scott recorded a career-high 17 points against the Indians.

Hanover Central (9-6): Junior Kristen Roper scored a personal-best 17 points in a loss to Boone. In the process, she moved over the 400 mark to 406.

Hebron (8-8): Senior Bre Lewin netted 20 points in a 61-52 loss to Kouts to move over the 400 mark to 404.

Kouts (8-9): Sophomore Jayla Crump totaled 46 points in Kouts’ two tourney games, including a personal-best 31 in a win over Hebron. In the tourney history, there have been only three other players who have scored more points in a game. Senior Allie Zimmerle added a career-high 16 points against the Hawks.

LaCrosse (4-11): The Tigers fell to Washington Township 56-40 in the opening round of the PCC tourney despite a career-high 19 points from Gabbie Sievers. Sievers was the recipient of the James Dold Mental Attitude Award.

Morgan Township (9-9): The Cherokees, who fell to Boone in the PCC title game, reached the finals with an upset of South Central, 59-45, and a 37-25 victory over Washington. Junior point guard Trina Coleman netted a tournament-high 49 points in the three games. She moved past 2011 grad Shelbi Westerhouse and 1990 grad Jill Hannon into ninth place on the all-time Morgan scoring list.

Portage (12-6): The Indians improved their Duneland Athletic Conference record to 7-4 with wins over Crown Point, 58-57 in overtime, and Chesterton, 63-58. Sophomore Kaitlyn Doud (18) and junior Alexis Johnson (16) each recorded a season high against the Trojans.

Valparaiso (2-14): Sophomore Grace Withrow tossed in 17 points in a 39-33 loss to LaPorte to move over the 400 mark to 402.

Washington Township (7-10): Junior Sammie Higgins totaled 24 points in two PCC tourney games to move over the 300 mark to 316.

Wheeler (8-9): The Bearcats routed North Newton 63-26 in the opening round of the Greater South Shore Conference tournament and then lost to Bishop Noll 51-43 in the semifinals. Junior Nickole Finch totaled 34 points in the two games and moved past Alyse Bruszewski into fourth place on the all-time Wheeler scoring list. Sophomore Allie Stevenson scored 31 points to move over the 200 mark to 215. Sophomore Shannon Eden matched her personal best with 11 points against the Spartans.

 

Boys

Boone Grove (8-4): The Wolves defeated LaCrosse 58-42 in the opening round of the PCC tournament before falling to Kouts 55-51 in the semifinals. Senior Daniel Malouhos matched his career best with 14 points against the Tigers.

Chesterton (9-5): The Trojans topped Andrean, 68-57, and Portage, 68-58. Sophomore Matt Holba totaled 23 points in the two games to move over the 300 mark to 313. Senior Jacob Andert notched a career-high 19 points against the Indians.

Hanover Central (9-6): The Wildcats captured the school’s fourth PCC tournament title with wins over Hebron, 45-35, Washington, 52-45, and Kouts, 64-60. The Wildcats' last title came in 2010. They were also in the finals in 2011, falling to Kouts in the title game. Senior Max Johnson totaled 61 points in the three games to move over the 700 mark for his career to 721. Johnson equaled his career high with 26 points in the title game. Senior Jeremy Pedersoli tossed in 13 points against Kouts to move over the 300 mark to 303.

Hebron (7-5): Sophomore Bryce Hanaway recorded a personal-best 19 points in a loss to Hanover.

Kouts (13-2): Kouts’ loss to Hanover in the PCC title game snapped a six-game winning streak for the Mustangs. Kouts made it to the finals with a 73-41 win over Morgan and a four-point win over Boone in the semifinals. Junior Max Everaert was the tournament’s leading scorer with 62 points in the three games. Senior Andrew Birky, the winner of the M.E. Dinsmoore Award, was also the leading rebounder in the tournament with 36.

LaCrosse (1-10): Senior Riley Charlesworth scored 16 points in a loss to Boone, becoming the 27th player in Tigers history to reach the 700-point plateau. Junior Nate Rhodes recorded a career-best 10 points.

Morgan Township (3-9): Senior Ryan Klikus tossed in 16 points in a loss to Kouts and moved over the 800 mark to 814. In the process, he went past 1976 grad Bill Snider and 1949 grad Russ Wittmer into 15th place on the all-time Morgan scoring list.

Portage (8-8): Senior Gage Pearman equaled his personal best with 11 points in a loss to Chesterton.

South Central (2-9): Senior Blaine Howell scored 10 points in the Satellites’ 30-26 PCC opening-round loss to Washington to move over the 200 mark to 208.

Valparaiso (11-2): The Vikings picked up their fourth consecutive win with a 63-53 decision over LaPorte. The victory also improved the Vikes’ record to 7-2 in the DAC. Senior John Mosser matched his personal best with 23 points and also moved over the 400 mark to 402. Senior Zach Meyer added nine points to move over the 200 mark to 204.

Washington Township (8-6): Junior Brandon Adkins tallied 12 points in a loss to Hanover, bringing his career total to 300.

Westville (4-8): Junior Shawn Gerron poured in 20 points in a 68-46 win over Covenant Christian to move over the 200 mark to 210. Senior Michael Grylewicz added a personal-best 17 points.

Wheeler (7-5): The Bearcats defeated North Newton 74-38 before falling to Bishop Noll 62-51 in the semifinals of the GSSC tournament. Senior Jeremy Truchan netted a personal-best 25 points against the Spartans. Sophomore Austin Greiner reached the 200 mark with 23 points in the two games, including a career-high 19 against the Spartans.
