Last year: 10-11
This could be a feel-good season for the Cardinals, who lost seven games by 10 points or less a year ago because they had no legitimate scorers other than the hotly-recruited Hyron Edwards and Anfernee Brown to go to in the closing moments. This team is loaded, with five talented transfers among its 12-man roster, again led by Edwards. "This year, we have more weapons around him so he won't have to do so much," said coach Abe Brown. "Now, he can play his game." The Cardinals will use their quickness at both ends of the floor. "Our pressure defense should be better than in the past," Brown said. All the new faces do have him a bit concerned. "We have to make sure we jell together and play hard together," Brown said. — Al Hamnik
Last season finish

Leading returning scorer
Hyron Edwards, 15.6 ppg.
Leading returning rebounder
Tre'Quan Burnett, 5.4 rpg.
Jeremiah Ochoa, Sr., G: "The last two years, he's started in the sectional and since then, he's become very vocal and knows the system well," coach Brown said. "He has the respect of all his teammates to where he can get in their face when they need to step it up."
Newcomer to watch
Damien Jefferson, So., G/F: "He's a slasher and has the shooting ability to get us over the hump late in the games when people used to pack it in against us," Brown said. "He has enough ability to break down a player and get to the basket."
