Last year: 2-19, 0-7 (GSSC)
The Spartans have won just 10 games combined in the past four seasons, but coach Tim Feddeler believes the tide is finally going to turn this season. “This is the year I’ve been planning for since I got here,” he said. “It’s my third year now, and I’ve been playing a lot of young kids building for this team. I think we can have as much success this year than in recent history at North Newton.” Feddeler welcomes back eight letter winners, including three starters in Wade Scheurich, Bryce Carden and Brandon Propes to give the Spartans a strong nucleus. That trio should lend some offensive spark to the Spartans. The early schedule is brutal with games against Marquette Catholic, Lake Station and Bishop Noll in the early season. If the Spartans can survive December, they could possibly get to the .500 mark on the season. Depth is a concern, as sophomore reserve Jono Bigger is likely out at least until mid-December with an elbow injury suffered in football. “We have a lot of guys coming back battling for spots,” said Feddeler, who sees the chance for 10 wins. “The experience is going to definitely our strength this year. We have stay out of trouble and stay healthy. We’re not very deep.” — Christopher Breach

Wade Scheurich, 11.5 ppg.

Bryce Carden, 5.7 rpg.
Wade Scheurich, Sr., G: Scheurich is the most versatile player for the Spartans with his scoring and rebounding ability. He‘s also a good defender. “Having him back is nice,“ Feddeler said. “He can do it all for us. He can score on the inside and he can score on the outside.”
Newcomer to watch
Blake Ramos, Jr., G: Ramos has got a nice jump shot and shoots for a high percentage. “He’s someone who could impact us in a lot of different ways with his leadership and ball-handling ability,” Fedderler said.
