It's often said basketball without a point guard is like driving without a steering wheel. Deep stuff, right?

But Seton Academy had no such problem last season, taking the high road to the Class 2A Illinois state finals with Jordan Foster running the show.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Foster signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to play for coach Jim Molinari at Western Illinois.

"I chose Western Illinois because I could see how badly the coaches and players wanted to win and that's obviously really important to me," Foster told the school's website. "I could tell the players are like a family and I also think I'll be able to develop my game while at Western."

Foster averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 assists per game and had a 3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio as the Sting finished fourth in the state tournament last season, losing to Rockford Lutheran in the third-place game.

"He is a very athletic young man, so we know he'll be able to defend at this level," Molinari said. "Jordan comes from a tough (Chicago Catholic) league and a winning program which will help in his transition to the next level."

Seton's overall record the last two years was 51-15 with Foster at the point.

"His ability to understand defenses and how to manipulate defenses from that point guard position is special," Seton coach Brandon Thomas said. "Jordan knew how to get (teammates) the ball and when to get them the ball."

The Sting return seven players next season from a 29-6 team that lost to eventual state champ Breese Center in the semifinals.

Included will be 6-7 De La Salle transfer Alex Foster, no relation to Jordan.
