(Records through Wednesday; last week's rankings in parentheses)
1. Bowman Academy (1) 12-2
It doesn't get much better than this -- 3A No. 2 at 4A No. 2 Carmel on Saturday night. Two great programs. Two talented teams. Two teams with deep March dreams. Too much fun. That's all it is. Really.
2. Lake Central (2) 10-2
Four straight for the Indians heading into tonight's game against Valparaiso. The Lowell game would've been a great tune-up but Mother Nature got in the way. Global warming. Get it while it's hot, like L.C.
3. Munster (4) 10-3
This is not breaking news, but the Mustangs are getting better. Dangerously. What they did to a very good Michigan City team Wednesday was impressive. At Hobart on Saturday night. Duck and run.
4. Lowell (3) 9-1
The Devils better bring some heat from Hades to warm up their schedule. Griffith and L.C. got bounced by a snow shovel. Unless this ice age continues, Lowell will play at rival Kankakee Valley on Saturday.
5. Bishop Noll (5) 9-2
It's that time of year. The Warriors play Whiting tonight in a Greater South Shore Conference tourney semifinal. A win gets them to Saturday at Calumet's fieldhouse with a shot at a fourth straight tourney title. Don't bet against them.
6. Griffith (6) 8-2
With two straight whiteouts, the Panthers are hoping the weather clears Saturday when E.C. Central comes to town. If ever there's a "We Belong" game, this is it. Win you're in. Lose and watch others.
7. Chesterton (NR) 9-3
The Cole Teal-less Trojans got their fifth straight win at Andrean on Wednesday, which is a great tester before tonight's Duneland Athletic Conference showdown at Crown Point. Have won four straight over the Bulldogs but no double round-robin this time.
8. LaPorte (8) 9-4
Coach Tom Wells was at Munster on Wednesday, watching the hosts take apart Michigan City. He will hope to do the same against the Wolves tonight. Splitting their last four proves that this is a big one. Josh Fleming is great, but he can't do it all.
9. Lake Station (NR) 9-3
The Eagles went 2-0 last weekend against seven-win Calumet and six-win Hebron. Not bad at all. Has one more win tonight to get to the GSSC championship Saturday. Surely these guys want another shot.
10. Michigan City (NR) 8-3
Everything was going pretty well until 8:30 Wednesday night. John Boyd won his 200th game against Valpo last Friday, and the Wolves were down a point vs. Munster at halftime. Then, ouch. Work to do.
On the bubble: 21st Century (7-2), Andrean (6-4), Calumet (7-2), Crown Point (6-3), E.C. Central (6-5), Hammond (8-5), Hebron (7-3), Kouts (9-2), Lew Wallace (4-1), Marquette Catholic (8-6), Roosevelt (6-4), Valparaiso (7-5).
