LANSING | Illiana Christian's Matt Hall certainly knows that with the cross country season in full swing, running times will be getting lower in the coming weeks.
Hall set his own personal record on the season with a 15:39 to win first place at the Illiana Christian Invitational Saturday at North Creek Meadow. Teammate Tony Wondaal was second in 15:51.
"I really owe all this to God," Hall said. "I've been trying to make sure I'm running with the right goals in mind. I wanted to just run the best I could. So far, that's my PR on the season so I'm real happy with that.
"I hope to keep improving as the meets come up."
Jordan Dekker and Milo Dixon took fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Vikings and helped them capture first with 24 points. T.F. South edged Bloom Township 118-119 for fourth place.
Bloom's Jacob Hernandez finished eighth in 16:28 while fellow Blazing Trojan Joaquin Silva was 12th.
T.F. South's Dylan Angell took ninth in 16:33.
"Considering I played two hockey games on Friday I hurt real bad," Angell said. "It was rough. It's a perfect day to run so I'm sure the weather helped out."
Many of the Illiana girls were able to record personal records as well on the season. Emma Pawlowski took fourth with her 20:19 as the Vikings nipped Hillcrest, 50-52.
"I felt good running," Pawlowski said. "We all are progressing and getting better. I think I PR'ed too. Most of our girls did so it was a good race."
Illiana's Monica Smits finished seventh, while Kristen Brink and Alex Clausing were 10th and 112th.
T.F. North's Monica Munoz was 15th.
"I felt like I did really good," Smits said. "I was just really happy that I stuck with Emma the whole time. I had a nice race and PR-ed so it was good."
