LAPORTE | For Lake Central golfer TC Cameron, everything started to come together Friday afternoon.
Cameron recorded six birdies, shooting a 1-over-par round of 73 to claim medalist honors at the Uebele Invitational at Beechwood Golf Course.
Times No. 1 Valparaiso had a total of 311 to win the team title by a shot over Penn and five shots over No. 2 LaPorte.
"My drives are going straight; my irons are going straight, and my putting is good, so everything is clicking finally," said Cameron, whose previous best round this season was 79.
Cameron made three birdies on each side, recording them on holes 2, 3 and 6 on the front nine and 11, 13 and 16 on the back nine. He missed a 5-foot putt for eagle on the sixth hole and had to settle for a tap-in birdie.
Kyle Meihofer's round of 75 paced the Vikings and was good enough to finish second. Meihofer carded three birdies on the back nine at holes 14, 15 and 17.
"I can't complain about 75 on greens like this," Meihofer said. "They were tough greens, and they were rolling pretty quick."
Logan Bertalan returned from missing some time due to an illness to shoot 76 for the Vikings. Patrick Andrie fired a 77 from the No. 5 slot.
"They eked out a win. They worked hard to keep it going," Valparaiso coach Wayne Lichtenberger said. "They all deserve a lot of credit. Everybody helped out."
Jordan Lenard led the Slicers with a 4-over 76. He carded three birdies on his round but wasn't happy with how he played.
"I didn't feel like I played particularly well today. I just kind putzed along, and it came together," Lenard said. "I felt like I left many, many shots out there."
Joel Collins shot 77 for LaPorte, while Austin Wells added an 81, and Ryan Garwood shot 82.
"We need to take care of the little things, which we did not do today," LaPorte coach Bill Hart said. "We left a number of strokes on the course."
Mike Barenie recorded a round of 76 for No. 4 Lake Central, which finished fifth with a score of 324. No. 7 Chesterton took sixth, while No. 5 Crown Point was ninth and No. 6 Michigan City finished 10th.
Portage's Jordan Henson shot a round of 76, including a chip-in for birdie on the fifth hole, to finish in a tie for third.
"I was hitting the ball straight off the tee, and I couldn't complain," Henson said. "I hit a lot of greens and a lot of fairways."
Marquette's Patrick Roder shot a 77.
