Duneland Athletic Conference

CHESTERTON

Players to watch: Logan Krantz, Sr.; Brandon Martin, Sr.; Evan Zondor, Sr.; Zach Von Huben, Jr.

Outlook: The Trojans upset host Valparaiso for the sectional crown last season, and the nucleus for that surprise returns this season. Coach Kent Butler believes his team might go further this postseason.

CROWN POINT

Players to watch: Mike Lee, So.; Matt Mudd, Sr.; Pat Mudd, Sr.; Luke Lambert, Sr.; Andrew Orosz, Jr.; Grant Miller, Fr.

Outlook: Crown Point's inclusion in a revamped Lake Central Sectional with Boone Grove, Munster, Lake Central and Andrean will make things a lot more competitive for the Bulldogs this season. However, Crown Point should remain one of the strongest teams in Northwest Indiana. Two weeks ago, the Bulldogs had nine golfers post rounds in the 70's on an 18-hole course.

LAKE CENTRAL

Players to watch: Matt Meneghetti, Jr.; Jono Gross, Sr.; Rhett Barker, Jr.

Outlook: The Indians experienced a lot of success last season, winning their own sectional. The loss of seniors TC Cameron and Mike Barenie from last season's team will definitely hurt, but Meneghetti, Gross and Barker are all skilled on the links. A trip to the state finals is the goal.

LAPORTE

Players to watch: Zach Liberatore, Sr.; Zach Perschke, Sr.; Austin Wells, Sr.

Outlook: Jordan Lenard and Joel Collins are now at IUPUI. Players like Wells made significant strides last season, giving coach Bill Hart the belief that this will hardly be a rebuilding year.

MERRILLVILLE

Players to watch: Naim Muhammad, Sr.; Kyle Krause, Jr.; Fard Muhammad, So.; Michael Robinson, So.; Robert Nielsen, Jr.; Taylor Bryant, Sr.; Kennard Turner, Sr.

Outlook: Naim Muhammad is the most skilled golfer on the team, and he led the Pirates to a LaPorte Regional appearance last season. Coach Patti Tubbs anticipates that he can advance even further this season. Nielsen has the ability to drive the ball a long distance, and another year of experience should help him tremendously.

MICHIGAN CITY

Players to watch: Ryan Brinckman, Sr; Josh Palmer, Sr.

Outlook: The Wolves lost just one starter to graduation, and freshman Aaron Skibinski is making a push to be part of the starting lineup. Brinckman missed a return to the regional last season, but he remains one of the area's top golfers.

PORTAGE

Players to watch: Nick Lewis, Sr.; Jordan Henson, jr.; Noah Kunstek, So.

Outlook: The Indians return their regional lineup this season, so experience is a strength. With some consistency, Portage could be formidable DAC and postseason opponent.

VALPARAISO

Players to watch: Patrick Andrie, Sr.; Andrew Gariup, Sr.; Bobby Jacobs, Sr.; Kyle Meihofer, Sr.

Outlook: For the first time in his lengthy coaching career, Wayne Lichtenberger has two Division I recruits -- Jacobs (Bradley) and Meihofer (Illinois State) -- on his roster. Andrie and Gariup played quality rounds a season ago, giving the Vikings arguably the most lethal lineup in the area.

Great Lake Athletics Conference

CLARK

Outlook: The Pioneers will look for a better showing this season, as they finished 10th at the 2012 Lake Central Sectional.

HAMMOND

Outlook: The Wildcats placed last in the Lake Central Sectional last season, and will look to continue developing their players.

MORTON

Players to watch: Ben Lopez, Sr.; Duncan Murphy, Jr.

Outlook: With the cold weather lately, coach Robert Hall has been stressing the fundamentals of golf, such as proper swing and golf course rules. The Governors will look to Lopez to be the No. 1 golfer this season and provide team leadership as a senior.

Greater South Shore Conference

BISHOP NOLL

Players to watch: John Mitchell, Sr.; Kenny Rueskin, Sr.; Robby Lorenz, Sr.

Outlook: Bishop Noll has six returning seniors, so the Warriors won't be hurting for leadership. The Warriors will look to contend in the Greater South Shore Conference. Coach Dennis Koliboski said his team has potential to turn some heads.

CALUMET

Players to watch: David Guerrero, Sr.

Outlook: Guerrero is the long returning golfer, and the rest of the team consists of four freshmen. Guerrero has the capability to shoot in the high 80's on 18 holes, and his leadership will be key in helping develop the younger players along with the guidance of coach Tim McGee.

MARQUETTE

Players to watch: Jack Clancy, Sr.; Hunter Paholski, Sr.; Patrick Roder, Sr.; Tyler Paholski, Fr.

Outlook: Clancy and Roder both qualified for regional last season, and the younger Paholski gives the squad some imposing depth. The Blazers could surprise some teams in the postseason.

NORTH NEWTON

Outlook: The Spartans had a regional qualifier last season in Selby Bord, but he graduated. There will be big shoes to fill down in Morocco.

RIVER FOREST

Players to watch: Jason Guel, Sr.; Allen Long, Jr.; Mark Long, Jr.; Brent Breese, So.

Outlook: The Ingots have four returning golfers, which should translate to better scores this season. They finished last at the Boone Grove Sectional last season, and will look to improve upon that based on their experience.

WHEELER

Players to watch: Drew Heinold, Sr.; David Sparks, Jr.; Brad Young, Jr.

Outlook: Four-year starter Heinold has just missed the regional twice, and he'll provide leadership to the squad. The Bearcats could surprise some teams this season.

WHITING

Players to watch: Jake Jacobson, So.; Houston Shimala, Jr.; Sam Novak, Sr.

Outlook: The Oilers need to stay in the fairway and putt well to be competitive in the GSSC. Whiting has been working on improving its short game.

Northwest Crossroads Conference

ANDREAN

Players to watch: Jack Musgrave, Jr.; Brendan Mulshine, Jr.; Patrick Howard, So.; Joey Nowroyta, So.

Outlook: The 59ers are a young team, but Musgrave and Mulshine will anchor the squad with solid scores this season. With the inclement weather, Andrean has worked on conditioning more than ever before, and coach Dennis Pokropinski hopes his team will reap the benefits of that.

GRIFFITH

Players to watch: Jake Loomis, Sr.; Mark Plawecki, Jr.; Jon Baccino, Jr.; Dakota Broelman, Jr.

Outlook: A large group of freshmen will mix in with the experienced golfers, which should benefit Griffith now and in the future. Coach Mike Worosz's goal is to get his team past sectionals.

HIGHLAND

Players to watch: Nick Elish, Sr.; Nick Canham, Sr.; Taylor Peters, Jr.

Outlook: Highland coach Dan Richardson is looking for golfers to fill the last two varsity spots, but the inclement weather has made that difficult lately. The Trojans advanced to the LaPorte Regional last season, but a Lake Central Sectional realignment with Crown Point, Boone Grove, Munster, Andrean and the host Indians will make it difficult to advance again.

HOBART

Players to watch: Alex Metz, Sr.; Andrew Barras, Jr.; John Georgos, Sr.

Outlook: Coach Brent Vermeulen is excited to switch courses, with matches and practices now taking place at River Pointe Country Club. Hobart finished last in the NCC last season, and the hopes are to jump up to at least the middle of the pack this year.

KANKAKEE VALLEY

Outlook: Kankakee Valley placed 10th last season in an absolutely loaded Valparaiso Sectional in which 12 teams put up sub-400 scores. The Kougars could have a better chance at advancing in the postseason this year, as they play in the Logansport Sectional.

LOWELL

Outlook: The Red Devils missed qualifying for the LaPorte Regional after a fourth-place finish at the Boone Grove Sectional last season. Lowell was young last season, so the added experience should carry over to this season.

MUNSTER

Players to watch: A.J. Gauthier, Sr.; Matt Specht, Jr.; Kyle Wilkinson, Jr.; Ronak Tilva, Sr.; Luke Wuchenich, Jr.

Outlook: Gauthier and Specht are two of the best golfers in Northwest Indiana. If the other players develop consistency, coach Bill Smitka said Munster could have a very good season. The Mustangs lost the Lake Central Sectional to the host Indians by one shot in a playoff last season. A seventh-place finish at the LaPorte Regional last season was a disappointment.

Porter County Conference

BOONE GROVE

Players to watch: Brad Bobrowski, Jr.; Jeremy Shaffer, Jr.

Outlook: Robert Lukas is now the coach of both Wolves' squads, and he said Bobrowski and Shaffer have embraced their newly found leadership roles.

HANOVER CENTRAL

Players to watch: Dan Kubiak, Sr.; Josh Jackowski, Jr.; Christian Pazko, Jr.; John Hayes, Fr.

Outlook: Kubiak has the most varsity experience and should be looked upon to lead the team. There are a total of 12 freshmen out this season, so it looks to be a rebuilding year for the Wildcats.

MORGAN TOWNSHIP

Players to watch: Brandin Bryan; Aidan Heinold; Braden Hirstein.

Outlook: Coach Gary Cauley believes his team is more experienced from past seasons. The team's focus is centered on improving their short games.

SOUTH CENTRAL

Players to watch: Chris Babjack, Sr.; Ben Gibbs, Sr.; Austin Howell, So.; Cooper Hussman, Fr.

Outlook: Four players from last year's roster return to the lineup for new coach Sean Schoch. Schoch believes either Howell or Hussman will play at No. 1 this season.

Others

E.C. CENTRAL

Outlook: The Cardinals didn't field a full team last season, so steps should be taken to bolster the numbers for the 2013 campaign.

RENSSELAER

Players to watch: Jacob Spurgeon, Jr.; Isaac Hillan, Sr.; Allen Barton, Sr.

Outlook: Rensselaer is going to the Logansport Sectional this season, which should mean the Bombers will be favored to advance past it. Spurgeon is a long driver and could be the No. 1 golfer this season, while Hillan is a consistent leader.

WESTVILLE

Player to watch: Nick Woloszyn, Sr.

Outlook: Woloszyn is the lone starter back from last year's 10-6 squad, but coach John Marshall believes his youthful roster will develop this season.
