Elder siblings Mitch and Paige set the bar pretty high for Boone Grove's Austin Aguilera.

Mitch Aguilera was the Porter County Conference boys soccer MVP in 2008 and '09, while senior sister Paige is the girls program's all-time leading scorer.

The Wolves sophomore forward doesn't feel overshadowed by those successes.

"It wasn't that hard at all to get over," said Austin Aguilera, a two-year varsity player. "I play for my team and do what is right for them.

"I still do feel a lot more comfortable as opposed to last season."

Aguilera is tied for the team lead in goals (15) and second in assists (eight).

"Austin is completely his own person," Boone Grove coach Brian Sherwin said. "He doesn't compare himself to what is brother did; the conversation never comes up.

"He gets in a zone, and I don't anything else can bother him. He's very confident in his abilities, and he's not scared to take a shot that others might not."

Aguilera admitted to being timid a season ago, but renewed confidence changed that attitude.

"I'm now thinking about how to score or set everyone up instead of worrying about making a mistake," he said. "I'm not afraid to shoot because I'm afraid to get yelled at. That won't happen if you don't miss."

He is confident, but the sophomore still seeks advice from others, including his elder siblings.

"I love it when they come to my games, because I will go up to them and ask what I did wrong," Austin said. "Oh yeah, they'll let me know pretty quickly (if I made a mistake).

"It does pick me up. They are there to support me."

Aguilera also has the support of his teammates. At least four Wolves have at least eight goals this season.

"I'm a little surprised with how many goals I have scored," Aguilera said. "I felt my role was to be there for assists, but I guess I've always been with in the right spot.

"It does make it easier, since teams cannot double team us. Someone will be open."

The host Wolves (11-4) are the defending sectional champs, and Aguilera expects to take a more-advanced role to help the team repeat.

"It does feel different," he said. "We want to go out and prove ourselves."
