PORTER TOWNSHIP | Crown Point didn’t need much time to gain control of Monday’s boys soccer game against Boone Grove.
The Times No. 1 Bulldogs scored three times in the first 17 minutes of the game to build a lead and cruise to a 5-2 win over the Wolves.
Stojan Krsteski scored two of the early Crown Point goals. He took a pass from Erik Eksten and beat Boone Grove keeper Nathan Miller in the 14th minute to put C.P. up 1-0.
“We were moving the ball well enough that eventually, we were going to get that goal,” Crown Point coach Mike Bazin said. “Our kids were really anxious to get on the scoreboard.”
Krsteski added a goal in the 17th minute when he dribbled past Miller and chipped the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
“(The early goals) really changed the way we were playing the game,” Boone Grove coach Brian Sherwin said. “It hurt us. We had a hard time trying to dig back from that.”
Carmello Morales scored 0:23 after Krsteski’s first goal to give Crown Point (2-0) a two-goal lead.
“They work so well together,” Bazin said of Krsteski and Morales. “Going into this season, I was so excited to see them play together for a second year. They’ve been getting the numbers they need.”
The Bulldogs, who also had goals from Bay Kurtz and Garret Shoemaker, kept up the offensive pressure all game, finishing with a 14-4 edge in shots on goal and a 31-6 edge in shots.
“Our focus today was to dominate possession and take the best opportunities possible to score a goal,” Bazin said.
Andrew Ooms and David Ooms each recorded a goal for the Wolves (1-2), and Miller made nine stops in net.
“We use these big schools to learn about us and take it to the PCC and see what we can do,” Sherwin said
Nathan Brower had two assists for the Bulldogs, while Krsteski and Morales each totaled one.
