Porter County Conference

Boone Grove

Players to watch: Jake Faron, Jr., Setter; Skyler Mizgate, Jr., MH; Cole Cooper, Jr., OH.

Outlook: After having a senior-laden team last year, the Wolves only have one senior who hasn’t played on the varsity. Look for a rebuilding year.

Quote: “Most of these players will be back next year. We need to get chemistry this year and try to do damage next year.” !~ Coach Matt McKay

Hanover Central

Players to watch: Dan Kubiak, Sr., MH/B; Max Johnson, Sr., OH; Steven Sojtrdma, Jr., MH; Nick Myszkowski, Jr., OH.

Outlook: Hanover Central has 10 upperclassmen (three seniors, seven juniors) to lead the way this year. The Wildcats will be working with a new setter.

Quote: “We want the seniors to step up and lead the team, since they’ve been on the team for four years.” !~ Coach Travis Lechien

Hebron

Players to watch: Trey Biggs, Sr., Setter; Spencer Sheets, Sr. OH; Austin Wayne, Sr., OH.

Outlook: The Hawks only have six players on varsity. They’ll have to rely on their four seniors. Spencer Sheets and Austin Wayne are two of the Hawks’ leading hitters while Trey Biggs moves the ball to give all players an opportunity to be involved.

Quote: “We’re not as big as last year, none of these kids can have an off night. We’ll be pretty good as long as we can stay injury free.” !~ Coach Kelly Dickensheets.

Kouts

Players to watch: Andrew Birky, Sr., SH; Dylan Bruce, Jr.,; Dog Satoski, Jr.

Outlook: The Mustangs have four seniors that have been with the program since middle school. Senior Andrew Birky is ready to step into a leadership role and is setting a work ethic for younger players.

Quote: “We have really good kids. They’re quality individuals who work hard and are coachable.” ~! Coach Jay Birky

Morgan Township

Players to watch: Jordan Grubl, Sr., OH; Nate Johnson, Sr., MH; Matt O’Connor, Sr., RH; Bo Anderson, Setter.

Outlook: The Cherokees lost five seniors and their setter last season, but have three seniors to lead the team. Coach Matt Bien says the seniors are gladly supporting the younger players. The Cherokees have 15 freshmen on varsity.

Quote: “We’re trying to get the guys to jell. We have some late arrivals, so we’re working on figuring out how to work together.” !~ Coach Bien

Washington Township

Players to watch: Joe Nugent, Jr., Setter; Garret Short, Sr., MH; Jordon Line, Sr., Libero.

Outlook: With almost the same team from last season, the Senators are looking to take it to the next level and be more competitive in the PCC. Setter Joe Nugent has a huge leadership role, but has been slowed by a sprained ankle. Jordon Line and Garret Short are vocal leaders  taking control of the back and front rows, respectively.

Quote: “We’re getting cohesiveness again and it’s showed in the first couple of games this season.” !~ Coach Danielle Wigglesworth.
