THURSDAY'S ILLINOIS PREP ROUNDUP: T.F. North girls remain perfect in SSC Blue play
Sharee Greenlee and Sabrina Montgomery combined for 39 points to lead the T.F. North girls basketball team to a 60-48 South Suburban Conference win over Oak Lawn on Thursday.
Greenlee had 23 points and Montgomery had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Meteors (10-8, 7-0 SSC Blue).
Schenia Battle added 11 points.
Homewood-Flossmoor 55, Lincoln-Way Central 32: Charnelle Reed's 26 points and Amena Brent's 11 rebounds led the No. 1 Vikings (13-6, 4-2) to the SouthWest Suburban Blue win.
St. Francis de Sales 50, Clark 26: Isis Mance led three players in double-digit scoring with 16 points to lead St. Francis de Sales to the win.
Franchessa Gill had 14 points and Taisa Harris added 10.
Girls Bowling
T.F. South 1,726, Evergreen Park 1,500: Shannon Pollard's 368 series led the Rebels past the Mustangs.
Pollard had games of 180 and 188. Kat Gottwold had the high game with a 193 in her 350 series. Charity Bickom rolled a 349 and Kayla Garcia a 344.
Boys Bowling
Tinley Park 2,006, T.F. North 1,794: Trevond Scott had a 441 series and Charles Hutcherson a 389 to lead the Meteors in the loss to the Titans.
The match was at Centennial Lanes, where Saturday's South Suburban Blue Conference meet will be held.
Scott had a 256 high game, Hutcherson's best was 211. Javon Brown had a 357 and Paul Bomba a 352.
Boys Swimming
Homewood-Flossmoor 106, Lincoln-Way Central 77: Jakobi McClellan won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles to lead the Vikings to the SouthWest Suburban Blue win over the Knights.
Homewood-Flossmoor won the 200 medley and freestyle relays as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
Also winning for the Vikings were: Haden Santefort (200 freestyle); Kevin Kuchta (100 butterfly); Jonah Ongman (500 freestyle); and Zach Peterson (100 breaststroke).
News and Notes
St. Francis de Sales not suspended: St. Francis de Sales High School athletic director Rich Maggio said he attended a make-up meeting for Illinois High School Association's principals on Thursday.
The East Side school was among several which was going to have its membership suspended for failing to attend the meeting for two straight years.
Proviso West basketball tourney announces 2012 teams: The Proviso West Holiday Tournament has announced a partial list of the teams that will participate in its expanded 32-team format for next year. Eight of the 16 new teams are being released at this time, according to tournament executive director Joe Spagnolo.
Eight new teams joining the sixteen team field include: Downers Grove South; Glenbard East; Maine South; Nazareth Academy; Oswego; Saint Charles East; Stevenson; and Wheaton Academy.
These teams join the 16 schools that played in this year's event: Benet Academy; Brooks; Fenwick; Glenbrook North; Hillcrest; Hinsdale Central; Homewood-Flossmoor; Morgan Park; Morton; New Trier; Proviso East; Proviso West; Rockford Auburn; Saint Joseph; Saint Patrick; and Von Steuben.
The remainder of the field will be announced at a later date.
Next year's tournament will be played over six days and will feature three days where games are played simultaneously on two adjacent facilities, where spectators can watch both games for a single admission price. The event will begin on Saturday, Dec. 22, run Dec. 26-29 and finish Dec. 31.
T.F. South boosters to host breakfast: The T.F. South Booster Club will host a pancake breakfast on Jan. 28. It is sponsored by the Lansing Copper Muggers.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast will be from 7-11 a.m. in the school cafeteria. The cost is $5 per person and all proceeds will benefit T.F. South athletic teams.
Tickets can be purchased from any South athlete or at the door.
