There hasn't been much in an athletic contest that Brian Clark hasn't seen before. But the new athletic director at Munster High School will be seeing it from a different vantage point.
Clark, a 1985 Morton grad, replaced Mike Smith as the Mustangs' AD recently. Smith, who had run the department for 12 years, retired and is now living in Lafayette.
"I learned a lot from Mike," said Clark, who was Munster's assistant AD last school year. "I want to keep our tradition going. I want to help to offer the opportunities the kids in Munster deserve. We have a great group of coaches here, who work together very well.
"I feel blessed to be able to do that."
Clark wrestled and played football at Morton in the 1980s. After graduating from IUN, he started teaching and coaching at Clark in 1990. In five years there he coached football, wrestling, softball and track.
In 1995 he moved on to Munster. He coached football for 12 years under head coach Leroy Marsh, boys golf for 10, wrestling for 11 and also had stops with girls track.
Smith finished off a great building campaign that upgraded many areas in the athletic facility. Clark said that Smith was very happy to see all of that completed.
"I want to see our kids be as successful as they can be," Clark concluded. "I want to be the best leader I can be."
