MERRILLVILLE | Andrean got off to a fast start against Boone Grove Friday night and never let off the gas.
The state No. 3 59ers scored on their first seven possessions and shut out the Wolves 62-0 in a Class 2A sectional semifinal Friday.
Andrean will host Rensselaer in next week’s sectional title game. The 59ers will be trying for their 15th sectional title.
Nine different 59ers scored touchdowns, with seven coming on the ground and two coming through the air. The 59ers have scored 16 touchdowns in the first half of their first two playoff games.
“Right now we are just kind of on a roll and hopefully we can just keep that moving into a great sectional opponent in Rensselaer next week,” Andrean coach Phil Mason said.
Andrean (9-2) took the opening kickoff and needed seven plays to go 65 yards and take the lead. Matt DeSomer ended the drive with a 12-yard scoring pass to Nick Serrato.
Zack Kogut and Trevor Berg added short touchdown runs in the first quarter. Berg finished with 66 yards on just five carries in one half of action.
Cameron Bosak led Andrean with 73 yards on 13 carries and a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Shamir Johnson, Wynton Jones, Jamie Johnson and Owen Satoski all had rushing touchdowns.
“A lot of kids got to play (Friday), so obviously that was special for them,” said Mason.
Jake Paliga added a touchdown toss to Bobby Quinn.
Andrean had 350 rushing yards and held Boone Grove to minus-20 on the ground. The 59ers had a 26-4 edge in first downs.
The 59ers limited Boone Grove to 45 yards of total offense, including minus-11 in the first half. The Wolves (7-4) had six first-half possessions, of which four ended in punts after three plays and the other two ended in interceptions.
Jake Morris led Boone Grove with three catches for 39 yards.
Boone Grove graduates 10 seniors, who have been with the team from its formation.
“We’ve really built our program around them,” said Boone Grove coach Tony Tinkel of the senior class. “Now we have to switch it to the underclassmen. It’s going to be hard to replace them, each and every one of them.”
