CALUMET TOWNSHIP | The Calumet Warriors picked a good time to get their first win of the season.
Running back James Adams ran for 216 yards and scored three touchdowns in the 30-24 win over Gavit.
The Gladiators were down 24-0 in the third quarter, but they scored three unanswered touchdowns and converted on each two-point conversion to tie the game.
One of scores came on a one-play drive. Gavit quarterback Tashon Rogers tossed the ball 37 yards to Brandon Phillips on the quick drive.
Calumet responded after the Gladiators' scoring spree by scoring a touchdown on an eight-yard run by Adams.
Gavit had an opportunity late in the game to tie or win the game.
Down by 6, Gavit took control of the ball on the 50-yard-line with 1:21 left in the fourth quarter.
Rogers threw four straight incompletions, and Calumet was able to run out the clock after the ball was turned over on downs.
The Warriors took advantage of their opportunities in the first half.
Calumet scored on its first drive of the game on a 22-yard run by Kobe Fowler.
The Warriors followed the touchdown by recovering an on-side kick.
Four plays later, Adams had a 34-yard run to score his first touchdown of the night.
After another Adams touchdown near the end of the first half, the Warriors recovered another on-side kick, but Calumet wasn't able to capitalize on the ensuing drive.
