The Indiana Football Coaches Association released the rosters for the North-South All-Star football game on Thursday and 11 players from Northwest Indiana were on the list.
The North team will play the South on July 19 at Indianapolis North Central High School.
"It's a great week of football," said Andrean coach Phil Mason, who has coached in the game in the past. "We had a lot of very good players in the region this past year and a lot of those kids were recognized by the coaches, which is good."
One of Mason's 59ers, Nick Serrato, is among them. The other locals named to the team are Lake Central's Michael Oljace, Crown Point's Sean Jones, Hobart's Gerald Valenzuela, Chesterton's Joe Troop, Valparaiso's Andrew Kittridge, Portage's Rashaan Coleman, Griffith's Austin Brown, Merrillville's Quentin Lacey-Blackwell, Morton's Ronald Scott and West Side's Torre Hopson.
Merrillville's Bradley Brayfield was selected as a North student manager.
Along with the local players, Merrillville head coach Zac Wells was named a North assistant along with Chesterton assistant coach Nick Bamber. Each region in the state is now allotted a head coach and an assistant coach.
"It's definitely an honor to be able to do it," Bamber said. "I was excited when I heard. I'm glad to be on it with Joe (Troop). From what it sounds like, it'll be a week of fun. It'll be a cool experience to meet the people down there. I have to thank (Chesterton) coach (John) Snyder. He nominated me and he's always spoken highly of me to other people, which helped."
