While versatile Austin Brown would insist he's not the entire Griffith football team, his stats say otherwise.

The senior quarterback has passed for 484 yards and five touchdowns, rushed for 1,047 yards (7.0 avg.) and 17 TDs and punted 22 times for a 37.5 average.

Brown also is the Panthers' second-leading receiver with nine catches for 157 yards and one TD, and their No. 2 tackler with 76 total and four interceptions.

As Griffith (3-6) prepares for Friday night's Class 4A Sectional 9 opener with Highland (1-8), Brown remains a game-day decision after leaving last Friday's loss to E.C. Central with a first-half injury.

"He's still visiting a doctor and I can't really discuss injuries," coach Jim Pickett said Wednesday. "I can't talk about any kind of medical issues to anybody in the media. I want to make sure that I'm not violating any privacy rights."

Griffith has a two-game losing streak, having allowed 77 points in that span. Highland is on an eight-game skid and last won a sectional opener in 2007.

The Trojans dropped their Sept. 28 regular-season game with Griffith, 41-14.

"Austin's been throwing the ball and doing those kinds of things. I can tell you that," Pickett said. "We probably won't know (his status) until game day."
