The romance between Hobart senior kicker Aaron Del Grosso and Indiana University has been going on for the last couple of years. On Wednesday, Del Grosso confirmed the relationship between the two.
Del Grosso will head to Bloomington in the fall as a preferred walk-on.
"Ever since my junior year Indiana has been talking to me," Del Grosso said. "It's been a good relationship. I told them a couple weeks ago that I would come as a preferred walk-on.
"If I can perform like I can, I'll have a shot of getting a scholarship."
Hoosiers kicker Mitch Ewald is a fifth-year senior with one season remaining. Del Grosso is expected to have a great shot at earning the scholarship after one academic year.
Del Grosso was a Times All-Area first-team kicker last fall. He was 42-of-42 on extra point, 16-of-20 in field goals, including two that were 50 yards plus.
With 25 punts, he had an average of 39.5.
Del Grosso's personal kicking coach is Bill Manolopoulos, a former Brickie kicker who also starred at IU.
Hobart coach Ryan Turley is happy this day came and did expect it.
"This is a great opportunity for Aaron," Turley said. "There are not too many programs with more than one scholarship kicker on their roster. IU has been interested in him a long tome.
"I've been fortunate to be around great kickers at Hobart my whole life. The way the ball comes off Aaron's foot is much different than all the others. He's going to be a difference maker at IU."
