But it was Anthony Mayers' four touchdowns that stood out the most as Bishop Noll defeated Greater South Shore Conference rival River Forest, 35-13 Friday night.
The Warriors (3-4, 3-2) kept the Justin Pennington-led Ingots out of the end zone despite numerous second-half opportunities by River Forest.
Noll defensive back Elijah Golumbeck recovered a fumble to end one Ingots' second-half drive and deflected a fourth-down pass in the end zone to stop another. Defensive lineman Ahmad Rucker added two sacks in the defensive effort.
Noll led 14-13 at halftime after the teams swapped scores, separated only by a botched placement hold on a River Forest conversion attempt.
Noll scored first, Mayers capping a 69-yard drive with a 1-yard scamper around right end.
The Ingots countered with an 11-play, 65-yard drive, Pennington hitting Luis Cordero on a 5-yard play-action pass to forge a tie.
In the second quarter, Mayers scored again, a 9-yard run capping Noll's 43-yard, seven-play drive. Pennington's 1-yard TD sneak 29 seconds before halftime would have lifted River Forest into a tie had the hold on placement not been mishandled.
Mayers added second-half TD runs of 24 and 51 yards, as the Warriors used a 21-point fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
