Inside the Bulldogs
Last season: 9-4
Returning starters: 11 (7 offense, 4 defense)
Returning offensive leader
Tristan Peterson, Jr., RB. 197 carries, 983 yards, 10 touchdowns.
Returning defensive leader
Brendyn McKinnon, Sr., LB. 78 tackles, 9 TFL.
Tristan Peterson, Sr., RB. The 'Dogs entire program changed when this hard-nosed speedster went into the backfield after an injury. Can anyone say, "Buzzsaw?" "We're expecting big things our of Tristan," coach Kevin Enright said.
He's got next
Jake Jatis, Jr., QB. At times the tall, strong-armed sophomore looked like a 10th grader last year. He had moments, though, where the flashes of brief light were illuminating. Getting 100 percent is key. "Jake has a lot of potential," Enright said.
The Times' breakdown
Chip Pettit has changed parking spaces and Kevin Enright returns home. Enright was the 'Dogs defensive coordinator when C.P. went 31-5 and won DAC titles from 2005 to '07. How much of a "Chip" hangover with the kids depends, but this is a team that won a sectional title and hung with Penn for three-plus quarters at the regional. "Expectations are high here and I like that," Enright said. Most of the skill returns. The defense has holes to fill. McKinnon is one of the region's top linebackers. Not a bad place to start. Only two offensive linemen return and no defensive linemen are back. There are some big boys in C.P., but few with varsity experience. Still, expect big things here. "Absolutely, no question, last year's playoff experience has been positive for these kids," Enright said. "We are working hard every day to build on this."
