Lowell Red Devils
Inside the Red Devils
Last season: 5-5
Returning starters: 14 (6 offense, 8 defense)
Returning offensive leader
George Fields, Sr., RB. (277 carries, 1,811 yards, 21 TDs).
Returning defensive leader
Dan Garza, Sr., LB. (80 tackles, 4 INT).
George Fields, Sr., RB. Coach Keith Kilmer believes Fields has a chance to compete for the school's all-time single-season rushing record, if this team can make a deep run. "He's our typical No. 6," Kilmer said. "Last year we had no second threat and he still ran for 200 yards a game."
He's got next
Andrejas Duerig, Jr., TE/DL. You won't need a roster to find this young man on Friday nights. He is the biggest, strongest Red Devil on the field. Kilmer said he had a great off-season in the weight room and should do damage this fall.
The Times' breakdown
The Devils went young last year and took a couple of lumps. If Fields got hurt, which he did, there wasn't anywhere to go. With guys like Gordon Sharkey, Ike James and Eddie Simmons, this won't be a one-trick pony. Seth Anderson and Zach Bobos are battling for the QB spot. Kilmer doesn't want to pass for 200 yards, just hit key passes to spread out the defense. The defense is loaded. The move to Sectional 9 makes for some great October matchups.
