NEW CHICAGO | Kyle and Alec Sturdy put on a show during South Central’s Greater South Shore Conference game against River Forest on Friday night.

The brothers each had three touchdowns and combined for 250 rushing yards in the Satellites' 38-14 win over the Ingots.

“Those guys have been running the ball well all year; our offensive line has been giving them some nice lanes,” South Central coach Dan Klimczak said. “The Sturdy boys have done an outstanding job all year, and we hope they continue to do so in sectionals.”

Alec, a senior, had 154 rushing yards on 23 carries, while Kyle, a junior, had 96 yards on 22 carries. The Sturdy brothers gained than yardage River Forest, which managed 176 total yards -- 82 coming in the first half.

The Satellites scored 14 points off River Forest turnovers in the first half. The Ingots had four fumbles, and S.C. recovered three of the miscues.

South Central got their initial first down near the end of the first quarter, on a drive that started at River Forest’s 39 yard line. Alec Sturdy rushed five straight times, then his brother Kyle Sturdy punched it in from 3 yards out to put South Central on the board.

On River Forest’s next possession, JJ Pennington’s lateral was recovered by Matt Avery at the 42. Ten plays later, Alec Sturdy had a 2-yard touchdown run to put South Central up 14-0.

South Central recovered another Ingots' fumble and Alec Sturdy's 1-yard run ended a four-play drive to give the Satellites (7-2, 5-2) a 20-7 halftime lead.

After a three-and-out by River Forest (3-6, 1-6) to start the second half, Kyle Sturdy carried the ball on all six plays of the drive, punching it in from 2 yards for a 26-7 lead.

River Forest scored their second touchdown of the game in the fourth. JJ Pennington hit Luis Cordero for a 28-yard pass to put the Ingots at the 6 yard line. Cordero caught a six yard touchdown pass from Pennington, making it 32-14. Cordero had 79 total reception yards.

Pennington was 7-of-15 for 99 yards for River Forest. He was sacked three times for a loss of 44 yards. John Flores rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown.

The Satellites had a total of 297 yards on the ground, compared to the Ingot’s 79 and have now won four straight games going into next week’s sectional meeting against Whiting.

“We have some momentum (going into sectionals),” Klimczak said. “We finished off a decent regular season. We played a little sloppy in the first half, but our defense played really well. We came out in the second half and made a statement.”
