(Last week's rankings in parentheses)
1. Merrillville (1) 1-0
The Bucs are 1-0 for two reasons. First, they are good. Second, they didn't open against Warren Central. Andrean comes to town tonight, and there will be a buzz on Broadway.
2. Andrean (2) 1-0
Why do the 59ers continue to play Bishop Noll? Warren Central would be a better opener. Another pounding didn't do either program any good. Tonight's Battle on Broadway will.
3. Crown Point (3) 1-0
It wasn't pretty, last Friday's 16-12 win over Lowell. Like a rusty Model T, not much was running smoothly on the road without pavement. State finalist Mishawaka comes to town tonight.
4. Morton (6) 1-0
A hungry Lowell squad comes to Hessville tonight. Coach Roy Richards, keep your Governors on the field at all times. Repeat. Don't give them water, or the Red Devils might go 70 for a TD.
5. Munster (NR) 1-0
One of the shockers in Indiana was the 'Stangs' beat down of Lake Central, 27-9. Did this say more about the Indians or Mustangs? A tough road trip to Chesterton awaits.
6. Hobart (7) 1-0
The Bricks host LaPorte for the first time since 2002, the last time Hobart was in the Duneland Athletic Conference. Da Slicers currently own a two-game win streak.
7. Portage (NR) 1-0
A defense that couldn't stop anybody last season stuffed Mishawaka in Week 1, earning a big, big win for the Indians amidst a rough early schedule. They'll be supremely tested tonight at Penn.
8. E.C. Central (9) 1-0
E.C. hasn't beaten L.C. since 2001. Could this be the year? If you're thinking this locked and loaded Cardinals team is ready to make history, remember the same group lost 49-6 last year.
9. Rensselaer (NR) 1-0
If Cracker Barrel is comfort food, Brad Stewart might want to eat Mexican. His K.V. squad got the boys in Bomberland, who gave a Jasper County smackdown to their rivals.
10. Whiting (10) 1-0
Just what the Greater South Shore Conferrence needs, another Petruf catching passes from AJ Veloz. Not fair. Especially on new turf. There will be none of that at Gavit tonight, just balls flying and Oilers oiling.
On the bubble: Boone Grove (1-0), Chesterton (0-1), Hammond (0-1), Kankakee Valley (0-1), Lake Central (0-1), Lowell (0-1), North Newton (1-0), West Side (0-1).
