Amari Griffin's season-high 31 points led the Beecher girls basketball team to a 57-36 win over St. Anne on Friday.
The victory gave the Ladycats (19-6, 10-0) the River Valley Conference title for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
Griffin had a double-double, adding 17 rebounds to go with six blocks and four steals.
Beecher led 19-2 after one quarter and 28-8 at halftime.
Teammate Rachel Lee had seven points and five assists. Jamie Ackman added six rebounds.
Thornwood 39, Bradley-Bourbonnais 33: Dorothy Taylor's 13 points and 14 rebounds led the Thunderbirds to the SouthWest Suburban Red win over the Boilermakers.
Boys Basketball
Bloom Twp. 58, Rich Central 44: Edward Williams led three Blazing Trojans in double figures with 15 points as Bloom Twp. (14-6, 6-1) beat the Olympians in the Southland Athletic Conference.
LeJavious Johnson scored 13 and Donald Moore had 10 points.
Thornton 66, Andrew 54: The Times No. 1 Wildcats (17-10, 8-0) needed a big fourth quarter to pull away from the Thunderbolts in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Thornton led 43-38 after three quarters, but outscored Andrew 23-16 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Jay Parker was 5-for-5 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and led Thornton with 14 points. Brian Greene Jr. and DeChaun Williams had 11 points each. Greene had seven assists and Williams had seven rebounds.
Seton Academy 50, Leo 44: Mark Weems made all four of his fourth-quarter free-throw attempts as the Sting (16-6, 6-2) beat the Lions in a Catholic League South game.
Jordan Foster led Seton with 14 points. Chris Coulter had 11 points, and Russell Robinson had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Marist 67, Marian Catholic 60 (OT): The host RedHawks (16-9, 5-4) made 7-of-8 free throw attempts to beat the Spartans (9-14, 4-5) in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Marian Catholic's DiAndre Bellamy hit a layup in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter to tie the game 51-51 and send it to overtime.
Brian Gates' 14 points led Marian with 14 points and five rebounds. Tyler Ulis and John Rhode has 11 points each.
Gardner-South Wilmington 56, Illinois Lutheran 42: Nick Durand's 11 points led the Chargers (6-7 overall) in the River Valley Conference loss.
Mack Newson added 10 points.

IHSA suspends Whitney Young boys basketball coach: Illinois High School Association executive director Marty Hickman ruled Friday that Whitney Young High School head basketball coach Tyrone Slaughter will be suspended until Feb. 14 from all team events, including contact with players and coaches, practices, games and any other organized team activities.
The suspension comes as a result of the team's practice at Burr Ridge Middle School in Hinsdale on Nov. 12. In addition, the school and the Whitney Young boys basketball program will be placed on probation until Jan. 1, 2012. !~ ihsa.org
