FRIDAY'S ILLINOIS PREP ROUNDUP: Poor shooting doesn't stop Warriors in win over Kankakee
The Times No. 3 Crete-Monee Warriors overcame a poor shooting night from the field -- 33 percent -- while disposing Kankakee by a score of 69-52 in boys basketball action Friday night.
Michael Orris had 16 points and seven assists, and LaQuon Treadwell had 13 points and nine rebounds for Crete-Monee (15-5, 5-1 Southland Athletic Conference).
Lockport 52, Homewood-Flossmoor 50: The Times No. 4 Vikings suffered their first SouthWest Suburban Conference loss of the season (8-1) and fell to 15-6 overall in a two-point setback against Lockport (13-8, 4-5) despite 12 points from Tim Williams and 11 from Maurius Hill.
Thornridge 64, Thornton 52: Behind a game-high 22 points from Antonio Woods and 16 from Austin Dunbar, Thornridge took down Southwest Suburban Red foe Thornton.
Woods hit six of his eight field goals from beyond the arc. Gene Jackson chipped in 10 points for the Falcons (8-11, 3-5).
Justin Taylor scored 13 points to lead Thornton (8-11, 6-3), which was held to just five points in the third quarter.
Thornwood 84, Lincoln-Way North 42: The No. 5 Thunderbirds (14-6, 8-1) had little trouble with the Phoenix (7-16, 3-6) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Mount Carmel 64, St. Francis deSales 42: The Caravan dominated the boards with a 34-18 rebound advantage while evening its Catholic League South record at 4-4 and improving to 8-12 overall.
Billy Patterson led the way with 19 points, and Alex Austin added 13 for Mount Carmel.
Marian Catholic 66, Joliet Catholic 28: Tyler Ulis scored 16 points to lead Marian Catholic (12-8, 3-1 East Suburban Catholic Conference), which nearly held Joliet Catholic scoreless in first quarter while jumping out to an 18-1 lead.
St. Anne 58, Beecher 43: The Bobcats fell to 6-16 overall and 3-7 in the River Valley Conference despite 12 points from Mike Pignatiello and eight rebounds from Austin King.
St. Anne improved to 9-10 and 7-2 respectively.
Donovan 53, Illinois Lutheran 41: Mack Newson scored 16 points and Collin Borns added 12 in a losing cause for Illinois Lutheran (12-7).
