The T.F. North girls basketball team used two ineligible players in Thursday's 53-36 win over Evergreen Park and must forfeit.
First-year coach Chris Pruitt used two sophomores who played in the sophomore game. South Suburban Conference rules state a player cannot play at more than one level in one day.
"I was going by the IHSA (Illinois High School Association) rules and I did not know it was wrong," Pruitt said. "I feel bad for our girls because they played hard and it was our first win."
North athletic director Dale Pietranczyk said it was an honest mistake and he did not know Pruitt was unaware of the SSC's rule.
Pruitt said the two girls who played did not make a difference in the outcome.
"They scored like four or five points and we won by 17," Pruitt said. "I know the rules now." -- Mike Nieto
