Chase Dawson broke open a 1-0 game with a two-run single on a 1-2 pitch in the fifth inning to lead unbeaten Andrean (15-0) to a 5-0 baseball win over Brother Rice on Friday.

Matt Desomer was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Parker Huttel and Alex Vode went 2-for-3 for the 59ers. Andrean's Jimmy Skiff and Cullen Carey combined for a three-hit shutout.

Andrean travels to Indianapolis with Crown Point today to play an alternating doubleheader against North Central and Hamilton Southeastern. 

LaPorte 4, Crown Point 2: Jake Benefield was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, and Jake Teets scattered six hits in seven innings as none of the two runs scored off him were earned to lead the Slicers. Leadoff hitter Cameron Watt was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for LaPorte.

Mitch Kooi was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Crown Point.

Kankakee Valley 12, E.C. Central 7: Chase Sizemore was 3-for-4, and James Allen drove in three runs for KV.

Ruben Flores clubbed a three-run homer, and Reyes Maldonado was 2-for-4 with a double in a losing cause for the Cardinals.

Whiting 10, Lake Station 0: Matt Dvorscak struck out 14 and threw a one-hit shutout as the Oilers won the Greater South Shore Conference game. Whiting's AJ Fruth was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ryan Veloz drove in two runs.

Kouts 9, LaCrosse 3: Brothers Jake and Max Everaert combined for 14 strikeouts, leading host Kouts to a Porter County Conference baseball win over LaCrosse. 

Jake improved to 1-2 on the season, allowing four hits and striking out seven in four innings for the Mustangs (4-5-1, 1-2-1 Porter County Conference). Older brother Max picked up his first save of the season, striking out seven and allowing one hit over three innings.

Will Ward led the offense with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jake Moore was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Brian Knopp was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Jared Spoljaric led LaCrosse (2-11, 1-4) with a double and two RBIs.

Washington Twp. 3, Boone Grove 1: Winning pitcher Jake Goodan had 11 strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings, leading the Senators to a PCC upset win over the Times No. 7 Wolves.

Charlie Kidd scattered six hits and had six strikeouts in the complete-game loss for Boone.

Boys golf

Andrean 156, Hanover Central 165: Jack Musgraves was medalist with a 36 to lead the 59ers (6-0) past the Wildcats (6-1) at South Shore's front nine.

Josh Jackowski led Hanover Central with a 39.

Girls tennis

Whiting 4, Lake Central 1: Whiting improved to 11-0 as did its undefeated singles players Grace Huss and Maira Huizar, and its undefeated No. 1 doubles team of Kaylinn Anderson and Serena Huss. Whiting's No. 2 doubles team of Alexia Gomez and Alivia Jakubowski earned the Oilers' fourth win.

Lake Central's No. 1 singles player Kristi Tinsley overcame a pair of 3-0 deficits to defeat her friend and summer playing partner Brianna Baez 6-4, 6-4.

Bishop Noll 3, Clark 2: The Warriors (2-5) won two singles and the one doubles match to beat the Pioneers (1-3). Colleen Keanay and Lauren Zielinski won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Karina Polomo and Michelle Harvey won at No. 1 doubles.

Clark got wins from Wideili Morales at No. 2 singles, and Perla Arambula and Yajaira Navarro at No. 2 doubles.

E.C. Central 3, Hammond 2: Single players Fabiola Guillen, Kayla Cast and Maradel Abonce were all winners for the Cardinals (3-5).

Softball

Whiting 5, Lake Station 0: Mollie Lovasko struck out 13 and threw a four-hit shutout as the Oilers beat the Eagles in GSSC play. Callie Mansfield had two doubles, while Sydney Neyhart was 3-for-4 with a double.

Boone Grove 6, Washington Twp. 3: Amanda Hawrot tossed three innings of hitless relief with six strikeouts to pick up the PCC win.

Hebron 12, Morgan Twp. 0 (5 inn.): Ashley Thalmann was 2-for-3 with a double and five RBIs, leading the Hawks over the Cherokees in PCC play. Katie Clemens had three RBIs and two runs scored.

Kouts 16, LaCrosse 6 (5 inn): Emily Kolb had a double, home run, three RBIs and three runs scored in a PCC win for the Fillies (5-6, 1-4). Kylie Bruce (3-6) allowed five hits over five innings. She was also 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Kaylee Haimberg was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Jailynn Goodwin was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for LaCrosse. Shelby Heavilin added two RBIs.
