Hanover Central had to wait a day, but now it's official — the Wildcats are Porter County Conference boys track and field champs.
The meet resumed Friday at Hebron to complete the pole vault and high jump, which were postponed because of rain Thursday.
Hanover Central, completing its last meet in the league, finished 151.5 points.
Morgan Township's Eric Barzycki won the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches), helping the Cherokees place second with 87 points.
Washington Township's Thamarr McGee won the high jump (6-1). The Senators placed fourth (78), four points behind third-place Hebron.
Hebron 12, Morgan Township 2: Katie Clemens tossed six innings of four-hit ball with five strikeouts to lead the No. 10 Hawks (13-3) over the host Cherokees (12-8) in the opening round of the PCC tournament. Kyle Doelling and Shelby Yankauskas each double for defending-champion Hebron.
Morgan Lippens tripled for Morgan Township.
Chesterton 8, Highland 1: Sydney Cooley tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and added a home run as No. 3 Chesterton (22-4) defeated Highland. Alexis King added three RBIs, while Bailey Slivka doubled.
North Newton 4, Clark 4: North Newton's Allyson Leach struck out 11, but the game ended in a tie. Clark's Valarie Ruiz struck out six and scored twice.
Kankakee Valley Invitational: Jenna Jungels won the 100 hurdles (17.0), long jump (16-5) and ran a leg of the winning 400 relay (52.9) to help Kankakee Valley amass 127 points and finish first.
River Forest finished second (69); Boone Grove was third (21), and Covenant Christian placed fourth (13).
Chesterton 5, LaPorte 2: Corey Rusboldt had a double and RBI as the No. 3 Trojans defeated the Slicers in Duneland Athletic Conference play.
Hobart 14, Morgan Township 6: The Times No. 7 Brickies pounded out 13 hits to beat the Cherokees. Luke Budzielek drove in four runs for Hobart (15-8); Drey Devereux knocked in three runs, while Tyrus Joseforsky ended with two RBIs.
Ryan Klikus led the Cherokees with two RBIs.
Lowell 1, Hebron 0: The Red Devils scored the lone run in the second inning to edge the Hawks.
Crown Point 5, Merrillville 0: Amber Haworth (No. 1 singles) and Abby Kvachkoff (No. 2) each won their matches 6-0, 6-0 to lead the No. 4 Bulldogs over the Pirates in DAC play.
Munster 4, Highland 1: The Times No. 1 Mustangs swept both doubles matches and got a 6-0, 6-0 win from Kasey Kulesa at No. 3 singles against the No. 6 Trojans. Melissa Tepperman got Munster's other singles win over Manasi Arya, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Highland's Vany Madrigal won at No. 1 singles to pick up her team's lone point.
Chesterton 4, Culver Academies 1: Both Margaret Shinn (No. 2 singles) and JJ Lee didn't drop a game as the No. 2 Trojans (12-2) defeated the Eagles. Meg Modesto won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 to sweep singles play.
Lake Central 3, Whiting 2: Navneet Kaur won at No. 3 singles to help give the Indians the close win over the Oilers. L.C. (6-7) swept both doubles matches.
Whiting (12-2) got wins from Grace Huss at No. 1 singles and Brianna Baez at No. 2 singles.
Lake Central athletic parent meeting Wednesday: The Lake Central athletic department will have a meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the high school gym. The meeting is for parents and all-incoming freshman athletes interested in participating in high school sports.
