LaCrosse erupted for 10 first-inning runs Friday and cruised past Covenant Christian in the semifinals of the Class A Washington Township baseball sectional.
The Tigers (5-18) will face today's Kouts-Morgan Township winner in Monday's championship.
Jared Dyjak led the Tigers offense, going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and four runs scored. Andrew McCormick was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; Bryce Guse was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored and Wylie Brown was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Covenant Christian's Larz Standford was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while teammate Colin Quigg added two RBIs.
Class A Culver Community Sectional: Austin Swistek went the distance with five strikeouts as Westville defeated Argos 6-4.
The Blackhawks (9-16) will face Triton in Monday's second semifinal. Swistek was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Austin Hisick was 3-for-4 with a run scored; Chase Kourtis was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored; Taylor Gilliam was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored; Alex Quinn was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Nate Handley tripled.
Crown Point 299, Hanover Central 358: Patrick Mudd made par with a medalist score of 70 to help lead the Bulldogs (14-4) past the Wildcats in an 18-hole match at South Shore Country Club.
Also shooting in the 70s for Crown Point were Mike Lee and Matt Mudd (76 apiece) and Luke Lambert (77).
Dan Kubiak's 81 paced Hanover Central (7-9).
North Newton's Leach commits to Purdue Calumet: North Newton pitcher Allyson Leach has committed to Purdue Calumet's softball program.
Leach helped the Spartans win a program-record 20 games and a sectional title as a junior. She's a three-time All-Greater South Shore Conference selection.
Andrean's Wojcik headed to Rose-Hulman: Andrean guard Collin Wojcik has committed to play basketball at Rose-Hulman. The four-year starter helped lead the 59ers to the Class 3A semistate.
Portage spring athletic banquet June 5: Portage High School's spring athletic banquet will begin at 6 p.m. June 5 in the East auditorium.
Portage sports physicals offered June 3-4: Sports physicals for Portage High School athletes will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. June 3 and 4 in the main gym. Cost is $20. A completed physical form must be turned in prior to the first day of practice next season.
