MUNSTER | Experience can get you far in a basketball season, but talent and athleticism is something even the legendary Rod Fisher cannot coach.
The lone loss for Times No. 4 West Side was a 76-74 barnburner against South Bend Washington.
Other than that blemish, the Cougars have beaten every opponent by at least 25 points, mainly because of one or two high-scoring quarters.
"It's mainly been the lack of competition we've played," Fisher said. "Our schedule is not very demanding until January."
Wednesday night was no different for the Cougars (5-1), as they went into Munster and ripped off a 21-point first quarter en route to a 48-25 victory over the Mustangs.
Guard Amari Ferguson got the team going early with seven in the opening quarter, which matched the Munster (3-6) team total.
West Side went on a 16-2 run to end the quarter and that was ultimately Munster's demise, as it couldn't sustain a rhythm offensively.
"Munster is the second best team we've played flat out," said Fisher. "We knew they could shoot, so we put pressure on their guards and got running."
Sophomore guard Jordan Cole paced Munster with 10 points, including three 3-pointers.
