Boone Grove girls take care of Bluejays
BOONE GROVE | It what could be a prelude to next week's Class 2A North Judson Sectional championship, the Times No. 3 Boone Grove led from start to finish for a 54-38 win on senior night Thursday over visiting North Judson.
"It's totally different in the postseason," Boone Grove senior Julie Hogg said. She finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. "We'll see. Anything is possible."
The Wolves and Bluejays are in opposite brackets next week, and the hosts wanted to come out strong.
"Our seniors wanted to win tonight, as it was our last home game," senior guard Emily Bobrowski said. "They're a tough team and are in our sectional, so we wanted to prove we could beat them now.
"We had to get Julie and Nicole (Malouhous) the ball. Rebounding was key."
Boone Grove led 10-4 at the first stop. Bobrowski scored eight of her 10 points in the second quarter, including two 3-pointers, to stake the Wolves to a 22-17 halftime edge.
Boone (18-2) stretched the lead to 46-36 after three quarters and withstood a couple of Judson (13-7) runs in the fourth to post the win.
"We had an advantage with size, so we executed to get the ball in low," Hogg said.
Bobrowski filled up the stat sheet, contributing seven assists and five steals.
"She's been solid for us all year," Boone Grove coach Candy Wilson said. "She really has. It's just not her shooting, it's her handling the ball, taking care of the ball and distributing the ball. She's really had her head on for us this season."
Wilson knows next week will be a battle.
"I'm telling you the way our sectional is, if you look, it's up for grabs," she said. "It's just what team is playing well and how the ball falls."
