Bioone Grove Wolves
Last season: 19-3, 7-0 PCC, lost in Class 2A North Judson Sectional first round to Rochester
Inside the Wolves
Leading returning scorer: Paige Aguilera, 5.6 ppg.
Leading returning rebounder: Aguilera, 5.7 rpg.
Star power: Claudia Cooper, Sr., G/F. She scored just 89 points a season ago, but things will be different this season. "Sometimes you have to wait until your senior year," coach Candy Wilson said. "She is so versatile for us. She can handle the ball, get inside. She's got great stamina."
Newcomer to watch: Sarah Brown, Fr., F. She has good size and will be an added weapon in the low post.
Cooper, Aguilera ready to shine for Boone
Boone Grove's top three leading scorers were lost to graduation, but coach Candy Wilson doesn't believe this squad will have an issue putting points on the board. "We have players who can step up and take on a scoring role," Wilson said. "Some kids are in the shadows. When someone graduates, it's their time to shine." Senior swing player Claudia Cooper (4 ppg) might be the team's first option this season. "A lot of our shooters graduated," Cooper said, "and I've been stepping up in the summer. I think I'll be able to do more things offensively this season." Senior forward Paige Aguilera will also have an opportunity to improve her scoring average. The status of senior shooting guard Brittany Slicker (5.4 ppg) is still up in the air. She tore her ACL in the past two months. It's uncertain if she will undergo season-ending surgery. Even if the Wolves lose Stricker, Wilson once again has an infusion of freshmen to build upon. Forward Sarah Brown and guard Rachel Cantwell have already proven that they can make the jump to varsity. "We might have a few hiccups with the younger players," Wilson said. "I think we've already been able to get some of that fear out of them." !~ Jim Hunsley
