Inside the Trojans
Leading returning scorer: Brianna Williams, 2.8 ppg.
Leading returning rebounder: Brianna Williams, 2.6 rpg.
Star power: Tylissa Fulgham, Sr. G. Despite a wrist injury which will slow her start to the year, this kid is one of the Trojans' hardest workers. She can take the ball to the rack as well as having a nice pull-up jumper. When she is healthy, things will change.
Newcomer to watch: Aleysha Slaven, Jr. G. There are three solid juniors moving up this winter, but with Slaven running the point, it all starts with her. "She is one of the quickest kids I've seen with the ball in her hand in a long time," coach Tracie Mezera said.
Breakdown
Starting all over again
With seven graduated seniors the Trojans are extremely young and inexperienced. Slaven, Alyssa Kikalos and Brianna Williams are three juniors that Mezera is expecting a lot from. Kikalos is the shooter with a lot of range. Williams is the post with a shifty quick dribble to get open shots in the paint. She is working hard at finishing around the hoop, Mezera said. The fourth-year coach asks her youngsters one question every day after practice. "Did you get better today?" If the answer is a lot of yeses, the season could be a shocker. The team is hoping to play better defense this time around with an emphasis on man-to-man defense. "I think we have the ability to score better this year than in the past," Mezera said.
