Inside the Blazers
Leading returning scorer: Hannah Weber, 5 ppg
Leading returning rebounder: Colleen Falk
Star power: Sydney Mussman, Sr., F. Mussman is one of four seniors on the Blazer's roster, and is one of the most athletic players on the team. She's physical, and is quick with good ball-handling skills.
Newcomer to watch: Maggie Mellen, Fr. G. Mellen, who played soccer for the Blazers this fall, has a foot injury and may not play until after the first couple of games. But she could be a starter this season, and is a good one-on-one defender.

Blazers look to improve on defense
Even though the Blazers only won one game last season, second-year coach Jordan Gallas has seen improvement over the past few years. "When I was an assistant, we were getting blown out of games," Gallas said. "Last year, we lost games by five, six, seven points. Two years ago, the team didn't any games so the fact that they were in those games last year, I feel that we can build on that." The Blazers only had seven players, making it hard to practice full court. This year, Gallas said he has a "good problem" with a full team and even girls waiting to get into the game. "Increasing from our team number last year even by two is really nice," Sydney Mussman said. "We're going to be able to scrimmage more, which will make us better. I can already tell we're getting closer as a team. We're getting faster and better shooting." Gallas said a key this year is their improved defense. Last year the team lost the turnover battle, leading to almost twice as many possessions for their opponents. The Blazers only lost one starter from last year, and will be starting three seniors this year. "Being a leader is exciting," Beth Bobillo said. "We hope that even outside of basketball girls will come to us for help and advice." !~ Molly Smerika
