Last season: 0-19, 0-7 GSSC, lost in Class A Sectional 50 first round to Oregon-Davis
Inside the Blazers
Leading returning scorer: Mary Salyer, 9.8 ppg.
Leading returning rebounder: Colleen Falk, Sydney Mussman, N/A.
Newcomer to watch: Hannah Weber, Jr. G. Weber, a 5-6 junior, will be asked to help out with the offense for the Blazers. Blazers alum and first-year coach Jordan Gallas believes Weber is up to the challenge. "Hannah can flat out shoot the ball," Gallas said. "She is gaining confidence in her game by the day. She came on strong at the end of last season. With the work she has put in over the summer, I expect big things from her this year. She is a winner who cannot wait to get going."
Blazers ready to reverse the trend
The Blazers finished winless last season, and they've lost 21 consecutive games. Gallas, an assistant under former coach Rob Smith, said things might be different this season. All five starters return from last season, plus some of the main contributors from the bench. Salyer and Weber appear to be the main offensive weapons for the Blazers. Falk will be asked to do more scoring, while she and Mussman hope to control the boards to provide more offensive opportunities. Beth Bobillo and Allie Back will be asked to run the offense. "They are all very excited to right the ship and get this program back on track," Gallas said. "There is a new hunger and focus this year. They are sick of losing, and these are tough girls. With what they have gone through the past few seasons, you cannot help but tip your hats to them. There is a new sense of urgency with these girls. They want to win now. Success is coming." !~ Jim Hunsley
