CROWN POINT — Jenasae Bishop not only wanted a shot at the Class 4A Crown Point Sectional title game, her legacy in the state needed the extra game.
Bishop, the E.C. Central senior, scored 23 points against Crown Point in a 45-33 win Friday, giving her 1,997 in her career.
"Three more and she reaches 2,000," coach Eric Kundich said. "By my count, she'll be the 41st player in the state to score 2,000 points."
Bishop played a shortened season this year, starting in mid-December after recovering from ACL surgery in June.
She scored 15 of her 23 on Friday in a second half that the Cardinals used to pull away from the Bulldogs' defense. She hit all five of her free throws in the fourth quarter, going 7 of 11 from the line.
The Cardinals will meet Lake Central in the finals on Saturday as the Indians topped Highland 42-29.
"This means a lot," Bishop said. "My first two years we went to the championship and we didn't get it done. We came out today and played with a lot of confidence and stayed positive and together."
