HAMMOND — Bishop Noll won its fifth straight sectional title on Saturday with a 54-26 victory over Whiting.

Bishop Noll started off on a 7-0 run and never looked back.

After starters Paris Harris and Makayla Fuentes found themselves in foul trouble, freshman Courtney Blakely than took over and scored nine of the next 17 for the Warriors.

"She's a special player," Whiting coach Rick Gregory said.

Blakely led all scorers with 18 points and senior guard Faith Jackson had nine.

Whiting's defense began to create some offense as the Oilers went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter, but still trailed by 12 points at the half.

In the third quarter, when foul trouble wasn't an issue, the Warriors outscored the Oilers 16-3 and lead by 25 heading into the fourth.

When asked how difficult that Bishop Noll fullcourt press was, Gregory said: "Normally that's our strength. Normally we can break a press pretty easily."

The Warriors defense held Whiting to 10 points the entire second half.

Bishop Noll will try for its first regional championship since 1990 next Saturday at the Winamac Regional. The Warriors are 1-3 in their last four first round regional games.
