Boone Grove (1-0): The Wolves began the season with a 57-12 thrashing of Calumet behind career-high performances from juniors Nicole Malouhos (18) and Sarah Steinhilber (10). This marked the fourth consecutive year in which the Wolves have opened with a win over the Warriors.
Chesterton (1-0): Junior Kelsey Conway scored a career-high 17 points as the Trojans topped Munster 61-46 in their opener. Chesterton has taken five of the last six meetings with the Mustangs.
Hanover Central (1-1): The Wildcats clobbered River Forest 66-17 to begin the season but were upset by South Central 68-63 in a Porter County Conference battle. Sophomore Hannah Blue netted a personal-best 10 points against the Ingots, who have lost 34 of 36 meetings with the Wildcats. Senior Blayr Poston exploded for 36 points against the Satellites to equal the school scoring record. Her effort matched that of Jordan Kramer, who had 36 against River Forest in the 2009 sectional.
Hebron (2-0): With victories over Covenant Christian, 63-31, and Wheeler, 45-40, the Hawks opened the season with two consecutive wins for the first time since 1987. Senior Rylie Shrum scored 30 points in the two games, including a career-high 16 against Covenant, to go over the 200 mark to 220 for her career. Senior Bre Lewin added 22 points in the two games, bringing her career total to 209. Junior Lauren Carlson matched her career high with 13 against Wheeler, and sophomore Madison Bell recorded a personal-best 11 against Covenant.
Kouts (0-2): Whiting topped the Fillies in the opener 48-22 to snap a nine-game winning streak by Kouts in the series. The Fillies also dropped their second game, 62-44 to Kankakee Valley. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 1976. The last time Kouts began a season with two consecutive losses was in 2003. That squad dropped its first six games. Sophomore Megan Heinold notched a career-high 13 points against K.V.
LaCrosse (1-2): The Tigers began with losses to Tri County, 37-30, and Caston, 36-27, but bounced back with a 56-29 win over South Newton. The Tigers have fallen to Tri County in each of the last 19 season openers. In fact, the last time LaCrosse opened the season with a win came in 1991 when it topped North Judson. Senior Taylor Guse totaled 24 points in the three games to move over the 300 mark to 316. Sophomore Alissa Tucker (13) and junior Callie McDougal (10) each netted a personal best against South Newton.
Morgan Township (1-1): The Cherokees defeated Westville 42-22 in their opener before falling to West Central 46-37. Morgan leads the series with the Blackhawks 34-8 and have won 22 of the last 23. Junior Trina Coleman scored 16 points against the Trojans to move over the 600 mark to 603, becoming the 15th player in Cherokee history to attain that milestone. Junior Brianna Leuck recorded a career-high 15 points against West Central. Senior Courtney Osby had 14 points in the two games to move over the 200 mark to 207.
Portage (1-0): The Indians smashed Hammond 68-17 to continue their dominance over the Wildcats. Portage has won all six meetings. Junior Salina McConnell scored a career-high 10 points.
South Central (1-1): The Satellites dropped their opener to Culver 56-39, prior to their PCC upset of Hanover. Freshmen Riley Popplewell made her debut with 12 against Culver before hammering in 27 against the Wildcats. Morgan Wright added a personal-best 10 points against Hanover.
Valparaiso (1-2): Following a 39-37 opening win over Kankakee Valley, the Vikings dropped a pair of games in the Tip-Off Classic at Hamilton Southeastern. They were beaten 46-33 by Fishers before falling to the host 69-31. Sophomore Grace Withrow totaled 61 of the Vikings' 103 points in the three games and moved over the 200 mark to 253 for her career.
Westville (0-3): The Blackhawks fell to Morgan, Lake Station, 35-30, and Culver, 59-24. Senior Shaina Jacks notched a personal-best 14 points against Lake Station.
Wheeler (0-1): Junior Nickole Finch scored 23 of her team’s 40 points in a loss to Hebron.
