Boone Grove (1-1): The Wolves defeated Calumet 28-23 last week behind a career-high 19 points from sophomore Rachel Cantwell. It provided coach Linda Eleftheri with a successful return to the job she held for 10 years (1987-96). Boone dropped its next game to Highland, 60-25, snapping a four-game winning streak in the series.
Chesterton (0-2): The Trojans lost their first two games, 46-41 to Munster and 70-55 to Mishawaka, despite senior Caroline Puntillo's efforts. She totaled 48 points in the two games, including a career-high 33 against Mishawaka, which tied the school record set in 2011 by Claire Holba. Puntillo ranks 16th on the all-time Trojan scoring list. It was the first meeting with Mishawaka since they played in the McCutcheon Shoot-Out in 1998.
Hebron (1-0): Coach Doug Godbolt won his Hebron debut, 42-39 over Wheeler. The Hawks are 25-26 against the Bearcats.
Kouts (1-1): Coach Ron Kobza earned his 75th win as the Fillies upset Times No. 4 Whiting 38-33 in their opener. Kouts has won 12 of its 14 meetings with the Oilers.
LaCrosse (1-1): The Tigers dropped their opener to Caston 43-26 but bounced back with a 51-43 win over Tri County. Katie Vance matched her career best with 10 points against Tri County, which lost to the Tigers for the first time in their 20 meetings.
Morgan Township (1-1): The Cherokees opened with a 76-17 win over Westville, then lost to West Central 48-22. Freshman Kia Holder scored 15 points against the Blackhawks. Senior Trina Coleman totaled 18 points in the two games to move over the 900 mark for her career to 916. Coleman ranks eighth on the Morgan scoring list. The Cherokees lead their series with Westville 35-8.
Portage (1-0): The Indians are 7-0 against Hammond after winning their season opener 67-20. Senior Alexis Johnson tallied a team-high 16 points to move over the 300 mark to 306. Junior Kaitlyn Doud scored 10 points to move over the 400 mark to 403.
South Central (0-1): The Satellites lost to Culver 48-40, marking the sixth consecutive year in which they have dropped their opener to the Cavaliers. Senior Jill Rosenbaum led the way with 14 points, moving into ninth on the all-time Satellites scoring list.
Valparaiso (2-1): The Vikings opened with two wins under new coach Joe Otis, beating Kankakee Valley, 55-52, and Hamilton Southeastern, 61-58 in double overtime. This is the first time Valpo has opened a season with two straight wins since 2005. It's the Vikings' first win ever against Hamilton Southeastern in eight tries. The Vikings then fell to Fishers 57-39. Junior guard Grace Withrow scored a personal-best 25 points against K.V. and finished with 50 points in the three games to move over the 500 mark to 516. Junior Stephanie Parker (13) and senior Kristina Veljovic (10) each had career highs against the Kougars. Junior Heather Fetla knocked in a personal-best 13 against Hamilton SE.
Westville (0-3): With several girls having decided not to return to the team, the Blackhawks are averaging 16 points per game after falling to Morgan, 76-17, Lake Station, 76-22, and Culver Community, 73-9.
Wheeler (0-1): In dropping their opener to Hebron, the Bearcats used 10 players, six of them freshmen. Freshman Illivia Horsfall scored 10 points.
