Girls

Boone Grove (2-15): The Wolves lost to North Judson, 58-30, and South Central, 65-25, last week, running their losing streak to 14 games. Sophomore Rachel Cantwell totaled 26 points in the two games to move over the 200 mark to 221.

Chesterton (10-10): The Trojans topped Highland, 52-43, before falling to West Side, 75-53. Senior Caroline Puntillo, Porter County’s leading scorer, totaled 57 points in the two games, including a school-record 38 against the Cougars. The old record was 33, which Puntillo shared with Clair Holba. With 936 points, Puntillo became the fourth player in Chesterton history to reach the 900-point plateau. Junior Kassidy Scott added 14 points in the two games, including a season-high 10 against Highland, and moved over the 200 mark to 201.

Hebron (7-11): The Hawks defeated Westville 63-38 and dropped a 48-44 decision to North Judson. Junior Madison Bell scored a personal-best 17 points against the Blackhawks. Senior Shelby Yankauskas matched her career high with 12 points against the Bluejays.

Kouts (12-8): The Fillies suffered a 53-44 loss to Hanover Central but bounced back with a 47-38 victory over Wheeler. Sophomore Bella Wireman equaled her personal best with 16 points against the Bearcats. Junior Jayla Crump had 31 points in the two games and went past 2007 grad Marlie Kneifel and 1995 grad Heather Campbell into 12th on the Kouts scoring list. The Fillies own a 37-6 advantage over Wheeler in the series.

LaCrosse (6-12): The Tigers suffered losses to Lake Station, 53-43, and Covenant Christian, 38-36, before snapping an eight-game losing streak with a 58-53 win over North White. Junior Naomi Culver totaled 32 points in the three games, bringing her career mark to 200. Culver had a career-best 14 points against the Eagles. Sophomore Shelby Heavilin notched a career-high 10 points against North White. The win over the Vikings was only the second in 17 meetings.

Morgan Township (12-6): The Cherokees defeated Washington 42-32 but fell to South Central 70-38 in a battle for the Porter County Conference round-robin title. Senior Trina Coleman totaled 30 points in the two games to move over the 1,100 mark to 1,129. Coleman moved past 1986 grad Ann Nicholson into third on the Morgan scoring list. She passed 1990 Boone Grove grad Tracy Hartman in taking over 18th on the all-time county scoring list.

Portage (10-10): Sophomore Kaitlyn Steers scored a career-high 26 points in a 58-51 loss to Munster.

South Central (13-7): The Satellites wrapped up their third PCC round-robin title and their second in a row with wins over Morgan and Boone. South Central finished 7-0 in PCC play. Sophomore Riley Popplewell fired in a season-high 23 points in the showdown with Morgan, which finished second in the PCC at 6-1. The Satellites have won 10 of their last 11 games, with the only blemish being a 76-55 loss to Class A No. 1-ranked Oregon-Davis.

Washington Township (13-5): The Senators rebounded from a 10-point loss to Morgan with a 43-35 win over River Forest. Junior Heather Burton tossed in 22 points against the Ingots to move over the 800 mark to 817. Burton also passed 1981 grad Chris Rudman and moved into fourth on the Washington scoring list. The last time a Washington team had a record as good as 13-5 this late in the season came when the 2005 team was 13-4.

Westville (0-17): Freshman Mary Parkman notched a personal-best 17 points in a loss to Hebron.

Wheeler (8-11): Junior Allie Stevenson recorded a season-high 19 points in a loss to Kouts.

For Bekelya, it established a career best and pushed him over the 300 mark to 309. Sophomore Grant Hamstra tossed in a career-high 12 points. The 104 points scored by Kouts is the most since a 108-59 win over North White 11 years ago.
