Last year: 12-11 overall
Seven of the Cardinals' 11 losses last season were by 10 points or less, but this team is greener than a driving range with only two returning starters — Shareese Billups and Tiajaney Hawkins. "We're looking for this team to really learn a lot throughout the season," coach Eric Kundich said. "I think the effort will be there. I think we'll be able to surprise some people by the end of the year." Any success will depend on the impact and leadership of Hawkins, who has been offered by DePaul and is being recruited by IUPUI, Wright State, Akron and UIC. New faces include sophomore Desiree DeGroot, a move-in from Owensboro, Ky., and Bowman transfer Tenaytia Sanford, a senior who'll be eligible Dec. 27. "We will have a short bench," Kundich added. "I hope that works in our players' favor. I think they'll all be hungry to play." — Al Hamnik

Newcomer to watch
Tenaytia Sanford, Sr., F: "She has a decent jump shot and the ability to take the ball to the basket and finish," Kundich said. "With how hard she works and plays, I hope it rubs off on the rest of the team."
