Last year: 14-8, 5-2 PCC
The Wildcats leave the Porter County Conference for the Greater South Shore Conference in their third season in Class 3A. Hanover Central is officially free of the small school label. This year also begins the post-Blayr Poston era, a four-year starting guard who rewrote the school record books. "(Poston) did nothing but raise the bar for how good our guards need to be," coach Doug Nelson said. "(Poston's) not coming off the bench. She's not going to be back in a couple games. They've got to do it themselves." Senior Kristen Roper will be counted on score, rebound and provide leadership. "I'm telling you right now, there's no one else I'd rather have on the bottom of a loose ball pile than (Roper)," Nelson said. "She's a monster." Frankie Turturillo is an athletic scorer and Lisa Gac (6-2) provides size in the middle. Last season's J.V. squad only lost one game and some of those players will have a chance to prove themselves at the varsity level. — David P. Funk
Last season finish
Lost in Class 3A Hanover Central sectional final to Rensselaer Central
Leading returning scorer
Kristen Roper, 8.9 ppg
Leading returning rebounder
Kristen Roper, 8.1 rpg
Kristen Roper, Sr., F: The three-sport star plays bigger than her 5-foot-7 frame. She'll be counted on to both work the glass and put the ball in the bucket.
Newcomer to watch
Lisa Gac, Jr., C: At 6-2, she'll have a height advantage over almost any player guarding her. If she can finish better around the hoop, she'll be hard to stop.
